My new computer and stuff will be here either today or tomorrow. I'm ball-grippingly excited. This will be updated appropriately shortly.

Well, it got here. It's very small.

My wonky supersize gtx260 (the primary reason I'm getting a new rig) won't take, as the 150W PSU the computer comes with doesn't have six-pin connectors, let alone the two that the 260 requires.

Around the time I was holding two PSUs in my hands, one 350W from my old rig and the 150W from the new one, untangling the cords from the cases and trying to fit the 350W into the new machine, THEN trying to make the cords reach all the appropriate ports, I realized something was horribly wrong.

If you want a computer done right, you gotta do it yourself. It's a race to either find someone to fork over $450 for this, or I return it, but I'll be using the cash to buy new parts and build my own rig.

I had to get the specs for my system together for something, so I figured why not bump an old but great thread.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium Edition SP1

CPU: Intel Core i7 860 2.80GHz 1156 Socket

Mobo: EVGA P55 FTW SLI E657

Memory: 8GB Patriot Viper II Series 1600MHz PV234G1600LLK (2GBx4)

Graphics: Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2 GB DDR5 Graphics Card 100312-2SR

HDD: Hitachi 500GB 7200 (OS), Hitachi 2TB 7200 (Storage)

PS: hec Zephyr 1000 1000W ATX12V

Tower: Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced Full Tower Case RC-932-KKN5-GP

So far she's been able to run anything I throw at her at max settings with ease.

Best tower I've ever owned. Not only is it amazing to have a tool less case, but I have 7 fans running and I can barely ever hear it and it always stays cool. The only problem I guess you could say is that it's as tall as my desk.

I accept your challenge!

OS: Windows XP SP3 (Old school suckas!)

CPU: AMD Phenom II x2 555 version (3.2 GHz & Overclockable)

Mobo: MSI 785GTM-E45

RAM: Kingston HyperX 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 (bleh, I need more)

Graphics: HIS ATI Radeon HD 5770 1 GB GDDR5 (not positive on the memory)

HDD: Western Digital 500GB 7200

PS: Corsair 850w (has some really nice cable management)

Tower: I have no clue who makes it, but it looks badass. I'll upload a picture the next time I have it out, but I really don't want to move it right now, it's in a very hard to reach spot unfortunately.

I am trying really hard to wait until the SSD prices come down, but it is tough. Tell me it makes no difference and I should just wait. It would help me out.

I'm curious about this, myself.
It seems to me that if you have the OS installed on a large drive with little fragmentation, the heads wouldn't have to move substantially during I/O operations. And a lot of the important OS components run in memory, anyway. Seeing some benchmarks between the two would be interesting.

the ssd i bought was a 128 3gb one and installing windows 7 took almost no time at all and my boot up is about 20 sec and shut down is like 10 secs and my windows score for win 7 went way up from 5.7 to 6.9 harddrive being the lowest score and i have batman arkham city installed on it and the are really no load times when playing.

No what i did is went to craigslist and bought mine from there paid $100 for a $200+ ssd so thats what i would do, and im sure ssd will go up in price just like the harddives have been, i bought a 1tb hard from craiglist like for $60 or $70 and the drive is $150 from newegg so try craigslist and ebay.

i dont have to wait to click and wait for it to open i click on it and its open just as fast as i can click on it. And im going to get ssd for my laptops also for battery power and speed. If you can get one then i would, just dont buy an off brand one the speeds are not as fast for ssd as a name brand sometime even be 1/2 the speed.

So figure out how big of a ssd you want then hit craigslist and ebay, it took me about a month to get mine i found a drive i wanted on craigslist and watch the price drop every week till it got close to what i wanted and emailed them asking i wanted the ssd and if they would take $100 cash and then it was mine.

I will have to do some 3d marks and see if my score goes up higher than my last few test.
