But competitive TF2 (if my memory serves correctly) is really fun. We don't even need that many players and there are different types of tournaments. It would probably help get this community back on its feet so to say if we made a name for ourselves (some of this stuff is livestreamed)! Post here if you're interested, I'd be more than willing to keep track of players and such. And this is definitely open to community members (not just pDs). I mainly just miss playing with all you crazy people. It's been too long. Plus I know we have some pretty good players out there (it's not really about winning though). I know you all have busy lives, but as long as we get a good roster of players we won't have a problem substituting players. Looks like the ordinary fewer player tournaments use about 6 players. There's six of us that want to play TF2 still right? Please do this. I'll be your best friend! Quote:Razor: As hard as one might try no one will ever be able to pull one over on Super Penguin. I'm not too big on competitive play like this, but in the spirit of watching everyone get slaughtered in first person, I'd be willing to try...

Hi there, I hope i'm not too late to reply to this. But first, just a note, I had to put punctuation in my password when I registered on here... which was kind of weird. Anyways! I strolled onto this forum/community through google, and i'd like to offer my help to you guys in making a competitive TF2 team. Some about me: I main scout and only play the 6v6 comp mode. Just got a sunbeams unusual! ;]. lol, but yea I've been on 3 teams before and 1 season of ESEA, so i'm not too experienced obviously, but I know the rollouts for all classes and positions/what everyone is supposed to be doing. If this is your first TF2 team, i'm sure I can help. I also have a friend who is brand new to comp and would play Solly for you guys with me. I can be available nearly any time, and I can help with anything from actually playing to going over strats and positioning with everyone. What you'll need: A fast voice chat server, all teams use Mumble as it has the lowest latency, but whatever you guys use should be fine. A lead comm (basically a team leader). 2 scouts, 2 sollys, 1 demo, and 1 medic. Preferably a TF2 private server to scrim and practice on. And finally, determination. I can't emphasize enough that TF2 comp will be an extreme step up from public servers, and it will take some adjusting to, and lots of losses. So yeah, if you want a semi-experienced scoot and fresh solly to be a part of the team, don't hesitate to contact me through steam, cause I might forget that I posted here haha xD http://steamcommunity.com/id/exole

I'm honestly not sure what class I'd be the most value as. Pyro: I can be a sneaky bastard as a pyro but my play style has been formed mostly from ambushing in 2fort. Try as I might, my timing with compression blast deflections is sort of on the pathetic side...Soldier: I'm pretty good as a soldier but tend not to have the best performance in close range.Sniper: Rifle: I tend to do decently well in public. I can dominate quite a few other snipers, but I get owned by the crazy expert ones. Huntsman: I'm crazy good at 2fort defense with a huntsman, but I doubt that translates well to other maps/modesEngineer: As simple as it sounds, I don't really know the good places on all the maps. And I refuse to wrangle/rocket jump as a matter of principle.Heavy: Well, I don't run into crowds of enemies without a medic. So that puts me higher than many heavies. If there's more to it than that, I don't know it. If the class is really that simple, maybe I'm bad enough for it.Demo: I'm good at spamming. Not so much at melee timing or fast-paced stickybomb warfareScout: Eh. I'm a sneaky bastard but scout's a little too squishy for me. And I don't have the twitch reflexes to really take advantage of his weaponry.Medic: Maybe. I'm a good survivor and am pretty good at prioritizing targets.Spy: Forget it.So yeah. General map knowledge is iffy to top it off, so I'd need a lot of practice. I can hold my own on public servers but I really don't know how well I'll do in competition. I'd volunteer as an alternate if we manage to get a full team...

Rikaelus, if the team was to be a 6s team, then you wouldn't need skill in any classes besides scout, solly, demo, or medic. Unless you're offclassing as scout. From what I read about your strengths and weaknesses of all the classes, I'd try you out for the spot of medic, and maybe demo with some training. You could even be solly if you're only lacking close range skill. In comp, most people have a hard time getting that close to you anyway, simply because of the threat you display being that class.
Map knowledge we would have to take slow, probably starting with the most popular map (cp_badlands) and running that over and over, perfecting our strats and positioning. Then we could advance to other maps such as cp_granary, so there is no pressure when it comes to learning the maps.

Coolstuff, I've used teamspeak in the past for voice chatting, but mumble sounds good if it's low latency. Also: howdy there Exole. I'm going to try to convince Growf and Muff to play. They played with me a couple of days ago and I was reminded of their skill. And I'm probably most useful as a soldier, heavy, pyro, demoman, or scout (listed in order of skill). Can play medic and engi, but not as well. I'm a terrible as sniper and spy. Quote:Razor: As hard as one might try no one will ever be able to pull one over on Super Penguin. Backpack of Win

Yeah Mumble doesn't have all the ranks and stuff TS3 has, but it does a damn good job of sending voice :D. Plus, you wouldn't have to download a different program to join PUGs and events.
You should start building a roster and have people claim their roles so it can be organized well, like this.
Soldier - Soldier - Scout - Scout - Demo - Medic - Subs:
(Also need to choose who'd be lead comm, ideally the medic, but any class can do the job).
Are Growf and Muff comp players aswell?
Also, you should add me on steam whenever you get the chance, I think it'd make communication a lot easier :]

You know, if that's a pretty standard lineup I can maybe do scout. Especially if scouts are actually doing their job instead of going around one-shotting people with their OP guns. I can't imagine any of those classes posing a particular danger to my elusiveness. Other scouts would be my biggest concern. And for them, I have a fish with their name on it.

Haha well that's one of the things I love about competitive TF2. Certain guns deemed "OP" or even too abstract are banned from leagues. Also, as a scout you're supposed to watch flanks while other scouts try to flank, so you would need to have good scout v scout skills.
If you do decide to play scout, you'd most likely be my scout partner.

If the matches fit with my schedule, and if you guys are willing to accept that I'm playing to have fun and don't care if we actually win, I am totally down for some TF2. I had a great time in the competitive matches we used to play a few years ago and I've been playing TF2 again some recently, since it went F2P it's been flooded with noobs and I love shooting them in the face when I'm drunk. A few weeks ago I was totally sick with a fever and half awake from the cold medicine while on a 24/7 32 player 2fort server, it was fucking incredible how badly everyone played so I stole the enemies flag and camped their base while taunting them in chat. I died several times but it was totally epic, I was doing shit like closing one eye and only using my shovel or playing one handed. I had two awesome medics tag teaming with me for most of it so it was extra hilarious. I was scaring them though, especially when I had to go piss or get another beer and would announce it to the other team that I was going AFK in their base. TF2 is good times. I'm liking that we have people interested, but I'm looking for people to actually be on the team. Here's some more in depth qualifications of being on a Competitive Team Fortress 2 team;
1. Availability - Ideally for the team to improve and get to know eachother better for the first stages, we would need to practice at least 3 days for the first week, and 2 days every week after. This would be in the evening and for 2-3 hours each time. 2. Improvement - This involves things like doing research for the basics of TF2 comp, watching demos, practicing MGE (a deathmatch mod), and doing lobbies (a website to do practice scrims). 3. Communication - It is absolutely required to have a working mic, Mumble (or whatever voip), and good calls. Good calls can be practiced and come with time and knowing callouts. 4. Followup - This means doing things like adding me on Steam to get started. 5. Cost - Getting into TF2 comp is not free, unless you want to mooch off other more established teams. It would be a monthly fee for the Voice server, and the Private server, and possibly a league fee once we would get more into the scene. (Pricing and payment splitting can be discussed later).
If there's not enough who fit those qualifications, I'll probably have to look somewhere else, because I'm in need of a team whether it be just starting out or more experienced. And, I don't mean to scare people off but Super Penguin, If you really want to start up a team and last in the competitive scene of TF2 or most games, these requirements must be met.

Yeah, I'm not sure I'd be able to guarantee my availability, what-with an 18 month old. It sounds like a good way to get us playing together again (a sort of "reason" to play besides just playing) but I'm not sure many of us would hold up to the rigors of that kind of environment for long.
