Besides a general dislike for the mechanics of MMOs and my life not really being compatible with one (having a baby and all), I've never had much interest in Old Republic-era Star Wars. I'm a New Hope+ kind of guy.

They make sense when there's heavy server maintenance costs. GuildWars gets away with no subscription fees simply because so much of the game is actually single-player, client-side. Or at least the GuildWars game I had was.

Of course you have the F2P model, too, which usually just makes up the difference through microtransactions.

I must say I'm a fan of the TF2 free to play model. You only have to pay like a dollar to unlock full functionality :D
