Since I see half my Steam friend's list playing it (myself included), what's everyone think?

I'm liking it. I'm not as addicted to it as some games I pick up (I can actually walk away and do something else) but I always look forward to going back to it.

My only real complaint is the clunky controls and menus, for which I blame XBox. Bethesda having to dumb it down for a console, they've missed the fact a person with a keyboard and mouse has a lot more buttons to work with. That, and there seem to be some bugs in what keys do what when, if you've remapped them.

But that aside, great game. And hearing a screech in the distance will definitely have you looking at the sky for dragonish horrors.

P.S. Just saw a dragon attacking an enemy town at night. That. Was. Awesome. Fly-by fire breath attacks and all. Poor little scaly guy didn't stand a chance against me once he retreated to his roost...

I wanted to pre-order it long ago but finances have just gotten tighter and tighter, the closer we get to the holidays. So... my wife offered to buy it for me as an anniversary present. =P

Controls are way too fucked for me. 90% of the time I have problems with menus glitching out on me. I click on a dialogue and it seems to always play the dialogue i picked in the previous conversation, same problem with inventory. I try to put some spare shit in my trunk but the menu closes on its own.

like srsly wtf? Oblivion didn't have a problem like this, neither did either Fallout game. Cmon Bethesda your starting to shit the floor here.

Thankfully most of my time is spent on looting the dead and pillaging the bandit camps. My shout powers seem to be lacking in more advanced versions of power. I only got 2 shouts that are fully upgraded to lvl 3. The standard "push" shout you learn from the graybeards and one other random shout that distracts enemies to check out a certain location.

My weapons are falling behind as well, Ive been using a skyforge steel greatsword since I joined the companions. which was like 16 lvls ago. I'm also a proud whiterun homeowner and got myself a woman who pays me money. Currently using a full set of steel plate armor, major skills being 2h swords, 1h swords with shield, heavy armor, although I didn't want sneaking it seems its my 2nd highest attribute, alchemy, smithing, and speech. I minor in archery, restoration, lock picking, and conjuration. Lvl ups are done as so x4 health, x2 stamina, x1 magicka

Yep. It's clear the underlying control mechanics were made with console controllers in mind, and not a mouse or mappable keyboard controls. I've gotten mostly use to dealing with the dialogue options and have just learned what buttons do what, when (since the onscreen list isn't right), but I still screw things up now and then.

I have the push and weather shouts at max, but the Graybeards teach both of those. I think I maybe have one other at level 2. But then a bunch at level 1. I wish there were quests or books that indicated where to go for each of them.... it just seems to be based on luck (or hitting up a wiki). I'd love to get the fire one to level 3.

I'm decked out with all Blades equipment, and Dragonbane on standby for when a lizard attacks. I think my current bow is Elven. I think the Blades equipment levels with me, since I've gone probably 10 levels without finding anything notably better.

My major skills are 1 hand swords with shields, heavy armor, archery, and restoration. I intend to level blacksmithing to 100 so to make Dragonplate armor. Lockpicking is a secondary skill and there's no avoiding getting sneaking up there... it just happens naturally. I'm also dabbling in enchanting, so I can pimp out my eventual dragonplate armor.

I level up at about x4/x2/x1 as well, though I'm starting to enjoy playing with magic a bit more... even if Destruction is against the established personality of my character...

I'm already looking forward to my second character, the thief sort. Stealthy, archer, dual wield daggers, light armor, maybe some moderately dark magic... I always enjoyed playing like that in Oblivion, though I have to admit I'm liking melee more in Skyrim. And I suspect I'll make a mage character eventually, too.

Just last night I actually managed to come across 1 ebony greatsword and an ebony bow. I've also managed to make a stash of 20k gold since I'm aiming for the achievement of 100k. My horse died while I went to clear out 1 bandit dungeon :(, it would be nice if you could feed the horse food to restore its health since my restoration spells don't include healing other ppl.

I'm somewhat surprised that I haven't come across any more kinds of armor. So far the majority of armor I find is still steel, usually bandit leaders are the ones that carry any steel plate. I did find 1 orcish armor and crafted dwarven but even upgrading them with smithing they don't protect as much as steel plate. Fortunately Ive advanced my story enough to find a set of blade armor. I just don't use the gloves and boots since the steel plates I got are upgraded both with +16% 2 handed weapon damage. I'm struggling to find any worthy enchants to place on armor and helmet since the majority of my recipes are mostly involved with magic and magicka boosts.

Does anyone know where I can find some enchanted armor I can break up where I could carry more weight and have better defense against magic? Cause it seems the majority of the dungeons i explore recently have been occupied by magic users and necromancers.

I found lvl 2 flame, and ice shouts yesterday so I'm finally getting some upgrades. Also can someone recommend some armor/weapon shops? Seems like I only use whiterun and I really need to gather more ebony ore since it requires 2 to smelt 1 ingot. I prefer if its a female seller since my speech gives me a price discount with the opposite sex.

I went to the mage college specifically to get the spell that would allow me to heal my horse. It'd be kind of nice if you had some sort of indication of its health. =/ The darn things likes to run to danger too much.

One of my biggest annoyances is that you have no choice but for your horse to go with you when you fast travel--even if you're not riding it. It's a nice thing, to be sure, but it should be an option. Mine ended up dying because it went with me when I fast travelled to a place that had enemies nearby. And I had a companion with me, which makes horse travel irrelevant, anyway. I haven't bothered buying a new one because of that.

I've started replacing my Blade equipment with other things, finally. I found a pair of dwarven boots with +30 carrying, and ebony bracers that were just superior armor. My Blades armor is going slowly to my companion.

You'll see more kinds as you advance in level. I'm level 25 and am starting to see elven, orcish, and dwarven more often.

Not off hand, sorry. It's out there, though.

The only other female blacksmith I can recall off hand is in an Orc camp along the far west edge of the map, sort of northish. Otherwise I do most of my smith trading in Whiterun or Solitude. I think Markarth might have one, too...

Let the records show that on this day, the 31st of Frostfall, 4E 201, Lydia, daughter of Skyrim and Whiterun, fell in battle while in service to her Thane, Rikaelus Alexander.

... because I pushed F5 instead of F9 after she died to some stupid blade trap, and I didn't feel like losing 30 minutes of play time, going to the last autosave.

Why on earth does it keep a history of 3 autosaves, but only one quicksave? -_-

Until I met Ysolda, Lydia was due to be Rikaelus' wife, too. Sad day. But much loot.

You couldn't marry her anyway, I've tried. I'm a lvl 32 but the armor is still majority steel/plate, elven (which i don't use since its light). I'm now using a full dwemer armor set now that my smithing makes upgrades to flawless. Unfortunately even with flawless upgrades its only 94 while blade armor only upgraded to superior is 104. I'm almost high enough in heavy armor to get the 2nd armor bonus for using all the same set which should help and since the blade helmet, gloves, and boots are a mear 32 defence. A full blade armor I get a standard 200 but with dwemer Ill have 214 and that's not including the full set bonus. I've also replaced the ebony greatsword with an elven greatsword as for a difference in 4 more dmg.

My next target shall be slaughtering the entire dark brotherhood hideout D=

btw why is an orphan child get a contract to kill, that's rather harsh =x

Hmm. Should be able to. She's on the wiki's list of candidates.

Hmm, think I'm 32 as well. I've seen glass start to pop up, and ebony is becoming more common. Bandits seem to always have steel. I've been using a glass sword for a few levels now, and I've seen a couple glass daggers and a battleaxe. No armor yet, but I use heavy, anyway, so ebony's more my thing.

I need to look at item upgrading. I have smithing at around 70 but haven't looked at the improvement portions. I might have to increase the difficulty level, since on the easiest I kill a lot of things very easily already.

'course... some fights still kill me. I think there's too much of a difference between "easy" enemies and "hard" enemies. On the same difficulty level, easy ones are REALLY easy and hard ones can be pretty hard.

Nice. I'd just be content getting the damn Solitude quest line so I could get my home. I'm at about 92k gold, so I'm about ready to buy (once I get the 100k achievement).

So how about that BF3? Thats what I've been playing instead of Skyrim.

I have been looking forward to picking Skyrim up on sale though, looks like it would be a lot of fun! I just have too many good games to play currently. Payday: The Heist, BF3, SR3, RAGE, Fallout: NV, and the perfect fallback plan: TF2.

BF-what? =P
I stopped paying attention to those once they went generic modern warfare like damn near every other military game. If you want modern warfare, join the military. Meanwhile I'll be playing BF1942 and BF2142.

BF2142 was shit. Sorry but someone had to state the obvious. BF1942 is too old. Everyone was tired of WW2 games coming out every 3 months, and now that the "modern war" games are starting to get quite repetitive. I'm hoping to find a better futuristic wargame, and something hopefully better then BF2142.

But for now the games at my personal list are Batman Arkham City (which is fucking insane that it's STILL not released on PC WTF!!!) Skyrim, although I am playing CoD:MW3 I'm not playing it nearly as much as I am playing Skyrim. And sometime down the road I'm picking up Skyward Sword. Yeah I got the kiddie console but fuck you I like Smash Zelda, and Mario. Mario will always be pimp.

I wouldn't go as far to call it "amazing", but I put a healthy dose of time into it when it came out. I liked flying, and defending the titans. But when I lost interest, it never really came back...

1942, though... hell... I went back to play that some just a couple months ago. But yeah... seriously dated now. They should remake 1942 with their modern engine and (optional) destructible buildings.
