Anyone affected by it, or know someone who is? My mother and her boyfriend are just outside its center in Reedville, VA, bunkered down in their kitchen with their cats. They just recently bought an RV. I don't know why they didn't just go for a little vacation... =/

Not really. My uncles live in Boston but they're pretty laid back about it. Also, they aren't in Boston right now anyway, so...I guess it doesn't effect them. I'm laughing at all the NYC'ers that are either treating it as a no big deal or acting like its the end of the world. Glad I live in the midwest. All's we's got is 'naders here. Gotta watch out for them twisters. If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe. - Carl Sagan My Backpack

Glad I live in the midwest. All's we's got is 'naders here. Gotta watch out for them twisters. Here in Phoenix the worst we get is the occasional dust wave, but that's maybe once or twice a year. Unfortunately it also means I don't have a lot of sympathy for those who knowingly put themselves in harm's way then lose something to a disaster. =/ At least where Irene is concerned, hurricanes going up that way is pretty rare. The DC area (near my mother) doesn't have much risk.

Thats exactly why everyone is freaking out. All these people up north on the east coast are all "OMG I SURVIVED A HURRICANE WHERE"S MY T-SHIRT!" and all the people who actually live on the gulf are all "Yeah, big deal. Still waiting on FEMA and BP to pay me though." Indiana? Mostly flash floods and tornadoes, but not much of either. We're a pretty boring state.
