While it's not a game I expect many of us to take all that seriously, I noticed there are over a dozen people on my friend's list who have it so thought I'd create a Penguin Doom Squad guild. For those not familiar with it, Spiral Knights is a little co-op F2P MMO on, among other things, Steam. Going a certain way through it rewards you with a special TF2 helmet for the soldier, which is why I played it. If you want in the guild, just let me know. I'll also be pretty liberal with permissions so others can invite people, but I do think the guild should be limited to existing pDs members.

Should I ever decide to play it again, I'll let you know. It just wasn't full featured enough for me and the hacking and slashing got a little old. I liked it at the beginning because it was easy to get into, but there didn't seem to be anything really deeper. Plus with the limited time thing...yikes. I'm considering getting Guild Wars 2 when it comes out. It's just a box price (no monthly fee) but still a deep MMORPG. Not sure I'm coming back to Spiral Knights. Yeah, most F2P MMOs are pretty shallow. And the energy thing is definitely brutal and something I've only seen in web-based games like FarmVille until now. I use to play FlyFF back in the day which was F2P and you just needed real $$$ for special costumes and perk items. So the energy recharge thing is definitely nasty. The problem I have with GW2 and, from the sounds of it, SW:KOR, is that they're very single-player focused. I hate, hate, HATE when MMOs focus on single-player storytelling. To me that defeats the entire purpose of it being an MMO. An MMO should be a shared, communal experience with everyone experiencing and playing a part in the same story at the same time. Little quests here and there with repeating storylines I can forgive, but they're going farther than that more and more often. Even WoW started in that direction heavily with WotLK, which I didn't like and is one of the reasons I left WoW.

Yeah, i agree, i didn't know Guild Wars 2 was aimed more towards singleplayer. I figured since they worked on making a system that can combine attacks from multiple players it would be pretty heavily multiplayer. I can't find the video I saw before that I think was for GW2... but this kind of covers a similar problem: Early in the video it talks about your personal "home instance" that changes based on your choices, like choosing which of two buildings get destroyed. That's awesome from a single-player perspective, but it's contrary to a consistent, communal world. If two characters chose different buildings and then tried to talk, in-character, about their experience... it can't work. There's an environmental contradiction that hurts immersion and roleplaying. Now... if roleplaying isn't your thing then that's maybe not a problem. But I can't play games like that without slipping in-character. =/
