I was planning to run some analytics through HLStats to determine if there are certain maps that get people connecting or disconnecting, but I'm too lazy.

So I'll ask all of you instead. Of the current rotation, are there any maps that should be removed?

Here are the current ones... probably all of them:

cp_gravelpit
cp_dustbowl
cp_granary
cp_well
ctf_2fort
tc_hydro
ctf_well
cp_badlands
pl_goldrush
cp_fastlane
ctf_turbine
pl_badwater
cp_steel
cp_egypt_final
cp_junction_final
plr_pipeline
pl_hoodoo_final
koth_sawmill
koth_nucleus
koth_viaduct
ctf_sawmill
cp_yukon_final
koth_harvest_final
ctf_doublecross
cp_gorge
cp_freight_final1
pl_upward
plr_hightower
pl_thundermountain
cp_coldfront
cp_mountainlab
cp_degrootkeep
cp_5gorge
pl_frontier_final
plr_nightfall_final
koth_lakeside_final
koth_badlands
pl_barnblitz

I would remove the bolded maps from rotation, and just include them as votable/admin enabled maps. No one plays those very often.

All the koth maps? =(
Those are my favorite ones. I vote for them every chance I get.

Looks like Mrs. C is just a purist when it comes to TF2 maps...basically only left the originals.

I honestly have no idea what people like to play on, just what I like. And the maps I vote on never end up getting picked...so I don't feel qualified to give you info. Although, it's not like the Tempest ever really has trouble getting people to play. I'd put fixing spawn times ahead of everything else on my priorities list.

Yeah, was hoping to slim up the map rotation before tackling map/map-type specific settings, since then there'd be less work to do.

I'm just saying that the Koth maps seem to kill the server (or have in the past).

Hmm. I'll keep an eye on that. I could see koth maps very quickly devolving into little more than deathmatch with a lot of players, so maybe people get turned off because of that. With only a 16 slot server, though, that might be avoided.

My dream--once we have a new server and can run more--is to have some "only" servers also, one of which would be koth-only. That'd make it feel... easier?... to take koth out of the Tempest rotation. While 2fort will always be my favorite map, I think koth is probably my favorite mode, with CP a close second.

I know I haven't been on in forever, but can't go wrong with the classic maps... CP/CTF/PL are awesome, KOTH isn't but that's just me.

I really like the new koth_lakeside. Its super fun, but not many people like koth maps in general. We're talking about catering to the widest possible audience - the lowest common denominator. The popular stuff!

Keep all of the attack/defend maps. Dustbowl, gravelpit, etc. Keep all payload and payload race maps as well. No koth maps, probably no 5 CP maps either (granary, well). Keep 2fort and ctf_well as well. Haw haw.

If its at all possible, keep them in the nominate menu, but take them out of the regular rotation. Lower the maximum rounds played to 3. 5 is too many by far for most maps.

Probably get rid of cp_degrootkeep altogether, people wanting to play medieval mode probably look for specifically, it might be hard for new players to understand what's going on also. As far as the 5 point cp maps go, most of them do take a long time, but as long as the round limit is lower on them they're fine in my opinion. Definitely keep cp_badlands. It is gold.

Bleh.
Maybe I found another reason I didn't play much on the Tempest before--ya'll hate the maps I like the most.

I will say this of cp_degrootkeep, you might be right that it's something that people look for specifically... which can actually be a reason to keep it. I noticed the new connection option TF2 has that lets you select a map and randomly join a server playing it. If people join the server if/when degroodkeep is on, they may stick around after. If some maps are sought specifically more than others through that new browser, that's a reason to ensure we play them. It'll help lead new players to the server.

I say keep them all.

Well, Star Wars Galaxies got into a massive head on collision with a truck carrying gasoline, causing a massive explosion.
Star Wars Galaxies was then taken from the wreckage, raped, and beat the **** out of. It is now in a comatose, charred state, while on life support.

Well, there haven't been any major drives as a result of this thread targeting specific ones, so yeah.. probably will.

I still want to keep my eye out for maps that run particularly bad on the server, though. I don't have solid evidence but it's felt like lag in the past has existed for only certain maps--like they're harder on the server than others.
