Apparently if you have live chickens, they lay fresh eggs and that is a good thing.
Since I got a PVC pipe cutter, I have been touting PVC this, PVC that. Well, I got hoodwinked into helping build a chicken coop for someone. I had suggested PVC pipe instead of wood, and that was that. I will eventually get fresh eggs out of this.
So this is six feet by four feet with a 2 foot door. The chicken box, where the chickens will lay eggs, will be on the left. There's a horizontal pipe on the right side where the door is (can't really see in pic save for the connector above the door) that will serve to suspend the chicken food.

The box will have some wood shavings and other stuff that will catch the chicken pop and absorb it, or something like that. Not my department. It also will have a corrugated roof and chicken wire will surround the structure. Again, not my department.
The most interesting part of this construction was the hinge mechanism needed for the door. Found the design on the internets.
The building material is 3/4 inch pipe. The hinges are made of 1 inch thin-walled pipe, cut in 6-inch segments, glued together. The right side is secured to the structure with drywall screws, the left side holds the edge of the door so it can swivel inside it. The door edge has a small collar secured to the door to keep it from falling through the hinge and dragging. That's the part that I thought was clever of whomever thought it up.
The owners of the house stopped me from gluing it all together in case the chickens die and they want to take it down or move it to another property. So except for the hinges, nothing is glued down or secured. Don't see that as a problem as it will be wrapped in chicken wire which will give it more structural integrity. I suggested they dab one drop of glue on the upper elbow of the door hinge area to keep that secure. They can snap the connection later if needed.
So, there you have it. PVC pipe chicken coop, bitches.

If there were any aspiring chicken farmers out there, would this still be NSFW?

This might make me sound redneck but when i was growing up we had chickens at my mothers house. They would just wonder around the yard and eat the hell out of the many bugs useful little bastards But... i remember them being picky as hell too about where they lay their eggs to, i think they need a shelter to feel safe..Which means a covered and darker area then outside Might work..i donno its been a while it doesn't change the fact that most people think Jews are much like the Ferengi of Star Trek. Huh. While I have next to no experience with woodcrafting, I have to admit the prospect of making a chicken coop sounds interesting. But then, I would have used wood and it would have been more conventional.

I also raised chickens for a few years. They're low maintenance if you keep them in an open area...but if you're counting on wood shavings for poop duty, be prepared. Chickens are like babies - they're mostly poop factories. Still, there's nothing like a fresh egg for breakfast...seriously, its a thing of delicious beauty. How soon after laying the egg can you cook it? Are their special prep directions for an egg that hasn't been processed? Are they safer if you just go straight from ChickenVag to Pan? Do chickens get mad chicken disease if you feed them chicken and eggs for breakfast? silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... I have 10 younger siblings and I am only 20....

No need to cook when you can swallow them whole straight from the source. {pDs} Lead Salad: bike why did you change your name Jessica343: so I can get heals {pDs} Lead Salad: oh damn good idea {pDs} Lead Salad has changed their name to {pDs} Lead Salad (is a girl) Jessica343: hahah

You can even skip a day or two, but don't take too long. You should probably wash off the egg before you do anything with it. There will be poop on it. Don't just plop the egg into whatever you're making. Crack it into a glass first, because we've had bloody yolks before.Chickens actually do eat eggs, but its more of a rival-chicken-vindication thing. We've felt that it just makes the other eggs more delicious. Imagine if you fed pigs nothing but bacon. Delicious!
