Sort of in the market for a new game to fill the gap until Skyrim comes out and I sort of shrugged off Fallout:NV since it looked so much like FO:3, and Dragon Age 2 because I read somewhere that it wasn't as good as Origins. Are those true, or is one really worth getting? Anything else RPG'ish out there right now I've missed?

I put 78 hours into New Vegas. Could probably put another 10 into it. There will be more DLC coming out for the game too. I can't speak for Dragon Age II though, as I've never played it (or the first one). Too bad Bioshock Infinite doesn't come out for awhile, it looks like a good game. Not sure if you've already preordered Portal 2, but it comes out in less than a month now. I don't know about you, but if it were me, I would want a break from the Fallout and try something new. I usually play FO:3 when I need a post-apocalyptic fix (such as after watching Book of Eli) and FO:NV would just be another way to get that fix. And I'm not sure if that's reason enough to buy it. I also don't feel any huge need to buy it due to loyalty to Bethesda, since they didn't develop this one.

Good God, DO NOT GET DRAGON AGE 2. Double especially if you have played and enjoyed any of the following: Bauldurs Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Dragon Age: Origins. Dragon Age 2 is simply click, wait for enemy to die, then click on another enemy. Use a skill if necessary. Don't forget your super regenerating health! I pirated a demo of it, and I didn't even play the demo for 5 minutes...not counting cutscenes of course. The combat is just rubbish. DA:O might have had your heroes quaffing health poultices (I know you can't quaff a poultice, but they're basically potions) like some lythirium addict (see what I did there?) but at least it was a challenge to play. New Vegas was so much fun to play, and I didn't even beat it. I spent most my time looking and playing with mods! Aaah, Bethesda. I love your modding community. RPG-ish? Check out Atom Zombie Smasher ($9.99). Its by the people who did Flotilla ($9.99). Both are excellent games. Flotilla reminds me lovingly of Homeworld, and Atom Zombie Smasher is...well, different. Both games have a very interesting sense of humor, and they're RPG-ish in the sense that the story is random and there are leveling up mechanics. They really aren't RPG's but I love them just the same. SUPPORT INDY DUDES! If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe. - Carl Sagan My Backpack

New Vegas I haven't played in months. It just got kind of boring after awhile I guess, I'd been everywhere and just didn't feel compelled to push the plot forward. It's an awesome game though, I like it better than the previous Fallout. Dragon Age 2 I have been playing a huge amount. My girlfriend beat it just this past weekend and loved it. Her biggest complaints were the limited character selection/creation and the lack of sexytime (she only played DA1 after I installed a few of the better mods). She is replaying it already, but I think she believes DA1 is a better game overall. I haven't beat it yet, but I am very far in on one of my characters. I think it's a great RPG, one of the best ever made. It's got some of the usual complexity stripped out of it, normally I wouldn't go for that but I feel like it simplifies parts of the game in an ultimately beneficial way. Really, I'd say DA2 is all about storytelling, and the design decisions they made serve to keep the bulk of the game focused on that. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

Dude, stop playing on easy mode. Crank that shit up to normal at least, you will be chugging potions like Whut and vodka. I think DA2 has awesome combat. It feels much more action oriented and fast paced, and there's more focus on big swarms of enemies. There's nothing like being down to that tiny last bit of health and mana while five guys are gangbanging you and oh fuck you are gonna die! when did I last save?! fuck no! oh shit yes, MIND BLAST!!! They all go flying in every direction and you ninja your pirate girl in to cover your ass while you loot a potion off a corpse to recharge your mana and drop some motherfucking fireballs from the sky. Oh yeah, I forgot about the whole limited character customization thing. No armour changes. ='( I was on normal...it was boring. =l If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe. - Carl Sagan My Backpack

Oh my god. So I downloaded the demo of DA2 on my PS3 and got pissed at the controls. Okay. Alright. I've never been one for console games that have a lot of control options. I was about to throw my controller on the (hard) ground, very hard, in frustration, so just quit. I at least got to the (real) ogre battle. Now I downloaded the PC demo. And the controls are still fucking horrid. What the hell did they do to this game? I alt-F4'd just because quitting through the menu wouldn't allow me to escape the game quick enough. I couldn't stand it even long enough to get past the FIRST (fake) ogre battle.
