Ok i got some 360s and fixed them but they dont have dvd drives, and the dvd drives are keyed to the cpu key so you cant just get a new drive and put them in and have it work. there has to be be a way of doing it, i mean if microsoft can do it there has to be a way to do it, or get the key off the the motherboard and put it on the new dvd. Or there has to be a way to unlock it so it will work on any 360.

Anyone know anything about this or know anyone that does? i have googled it and there are alot of ways its suppose to work but i dont have the time to test each one, to see if they do work. So any good input would be very helpful

As much as I'd love to come into this thread, laugh at your XBox-related misfortune, and praise the PS3 as again being superior... I don't know if changing a Bluray drive in a PS3 is any easier. So it would be unwise for me to come into this thread and laugh at your XBox-related misfortune.

But I'm not wise.

Haha.

In all seriousness, though... a quick Googling revealed several places that sell 360 DVD drives, and I read a comment that you'll need to replace the existing controller board. It really has to line up to the CPU as well? That sucks. And I wonder why Microsoft went to that length. It couldn't have been easy since they use drives from several manufacturers.

This seems like craziness to me, I don't know why you would ever buy a bunch of driveless 360s when the only real way to get new information to 360 is through it's disc drive :(

I am scared for you.

Good luck though!

There is a way to get the dvd key from the ana or hana chip depending on what 360 you have, but i dont know how yet. I called microshit tonite and got a dump bitch from the philippines saying it was out of warenty and i already knew that then she said that microshit will not fix it even if i pay for it, because someone opened it already, which does not make me think that microshit stand behind there products at all. And if im will to pay for it why not? microshit is not out anything. Then i asked for them to give me my dvd key and she said no they can not do that. which is a lie they can but they wont only the tech can get the key which is more shit. Just like m$ soldered the cpu and gpu to the mb insted of the using a socket like a computer. Ill just have to find a work shop that will do it for me i geuss.

Microsoft hating aside, having fixed things that other (less skilled or inteligent) people have had a swing at already makes fixing it a pain in the ass, because they very likely fiddled with things that shouldn't be fiddled with, changed things without telling me, and didn't put it back together right, so I can understand their position.

Yeah, doesn't surprise me either that they draw the line at others having opened the box. They probably don't want to expend a lot of resources fixing or replacing units that are out of warranty, so drawing the line there is an easy way to avoid excess amounts of work. A normally broken unit probably has one of several known issues, but if someone has opened the box... anything goes. Harder to deal with then.

Its a 10 min job at moth they hook up the motherboard get the dvd key and program the dvd player and i offer to pay for everything shipping to them and shipping it back to me, they refused to take my money and stand behind there faulty eqiument. The 360's work fine except the dvd went out because they made faulty dvd to ship out with. Just like the heatsink is to small on the older 360s to cool the gpu right then it overs heats the gpu the melts the tin solder the it losses its concetion to the motherboard. All that aside lets get back on the topic any one here know how to get the dvd key of the motherboard or know where a repair center is that is not microsoft does not own.

Never dealt with repair shops for.. anything.. but have you tried calling GeekSquad? Not sure if there are any others that can really be recommended over the 'net, since so many are local places.
