And at least when buying AMD you can afford to buy eggs afterward. Buy Intel and you'll only have your thumb to suck on. Then you'll cry like a baby when you finally realize you just paid more than you needed.

Raw eggs are gross, which is what I was implying sucking.

I'm just a Intel fanboy. I've only ever used Intel and I'm afraid of trying something different that I don't have any previous experience with. This is why I used an ad hominem attack on AMD, just cuz it was the only thing I could do.

However, I am now strongly looking into AMD for any upgrades. Changing the processor port for every new version?! I guess it could make sense to not limit them to older standards, but it sucks for consumers to have to buy a new mobo every time. =(

Ok! Back to Razor. Thats a sexy mobo.

That is also a nice video card - I say go for it. You might want to check to see if its cost effective to get a lower end card with more memory. I'm not sure how that pricing works though.

Also, someone has to mention if you're gonna be using 8 gigs of RAM, use 64bit Windows. I kind of wish I did. I will definitely be going 64 bit next time I upgrade my OS.

Also, 2 sticks of 4 gigs is not 'economical'. 4 sticks of 2 gigs is cheaper.

Dangit Razor, now I'm starting to feel like upgrading some parts. I already need a new HD. D=

Actually I said more economical for future upgrades. Those extra 2 sticks would be useless in the event I wanted to add more memory at a later date.

Who knows when a stick of RAM could be useful? Hell, I'd buy it off you.

Eh, I had a couple older memory sticks for upwards of 2-3 years. When I bought 2GB more, I just put them alongside the old. I know that downs the quality of the new ones, but going from 2GB to 4GB was hugely noticeable. They don't seem to change memory slot architecture nearly as often as CPU. Get DDR3 now and you'll probably have it for a good 5 years at least.

Samsung just developed DDR4 in January. It's not out yet, but could be by the end of the year.

Anytime anyone says "this should last you 5 years" regarding technology...well...yeah.

Even if DDR3 serves your needs, DDR4 would be SOOO MUCH BETTER!

Volume shipments aren't expected until ~2015

DDR was released around 2000
DDR2 started to take the lead over DDR around 2004
DDR3 became mainstream around 2008
DDR4 isn't expected to become the norm until 2015

So, yeah... DDR generations have roughly a 5-year life cycle until the next version comes out, and even then the prior generation will be supported for probably a couple years more.

I can't imagine tech industries would be happy with much less than that. My employer puts out the kind of servers that support 128 - 256GB of memory each. They would *not* be happy if they had to replace all that memory because motherboard replacements wouldn't support it.

Back on topic please. The motherboard I have selected is out of stock. Any suggestions that would work extremely well with my other selections. Call me stupid but would a motherboard with crossfire work with a nVidia card?

The card would fit in the slot but you wouldn't be able to use SLI to connect multiple nVidia video cards.

At least I'm pretty sure that's how it is. It'd be downright dirty of them to remove support for "the other guy's" cards.

there are some mb i have seen that will do cf and sli, or at least claim to. But if you are going to get an sli setup get a mb that supports sli and not crossfire, at least thats what i did. crossfire is for ati cards and sli is for nvidia cards. I have had very good luck with evga i would look into them
