So I have a Linksys WMP54G wireless card in my rig. It was working fine, then stopped working. It would connect to the router, but then it would not connect to the internets.

Then I got an error: GIFException in module aviWMP54Gv4.dll at 000252AF.

So I do a little Googling and there are forum answers which say you have to take out your uninstall the drivers, mess with some "nic" files, etc.

Then I found the answer that was super simple which worked for me.

You go into your Windows folder, then Temp folder, then find all the .gif files which begin with WM. The easy way to find them is to sort by file type and they all group together. Delete those which start with WM (Linksys generated) and restart your computer and you're back on the internets.

No idea what these temp .gif files do, but they're created by the Linksys software. I thought .gif files were graphic files, but no matter, once they're gone, the software creates new ones that don't screw up on restart.

So, yeah, back to plague you all . . .

Lol, some people don't like drilling holes in their walls, such as myself.

Yeah, I rent the back part of a house and internet is included, but the owner didn't want to wire the back half, so I have to go wireless.

Also, I had the same problem pop up again, so I disabled the connectivity, uninstalled the Linksys software and deleted the .gif files and restarted. I reloaded the software and restarted, enabled the connectivity again and it worked like a charm. All the connection profiles within the Linksys wireless monitor had been wiped and had to reenter the info, but I think that did the trick.

I also have to use a wifi card for my pc. I'm only like 8 feet away from the router in a straight line, but I'd have to run like 100 feet of ethernet cable if I wanted a wired connection. =l
