As the thread subject states, I'm looking for a new game. An RPG with big space battles, maybe. I did notice the free trial for the star trek online, but I don't want to be tied down for a monthly fee. I did the EVE Online trial a long time ago, and really enjoyed that, but there's the monthly fee again after that's done. Any suggestions?

If there's a good space RPG out there I'd like to know, too.

"RPG" and "space" don't seem to go with each other much these days, unless in the form of plot-heavy, single-player games like Mass Effect.

I have a lifetime STO subscription but haven't played that in a while. It's simple fun but lacking in the RP. I think it's just a lot easier for people to RP medieval/fantasy in MMO environments than future/sci-fi, so quality RP is near-impossible to find there.

I never found RP in EVE Online, either.. but then I barely got into anything multiplayer there.

MMO's are not RPGs. they are a series of stat ladder mini games in a giant lobby. You are either looking for an RPG, or and MMO. Which is it?

Or are big space battles the only thing you care about. if so.. Sins of a solar empire.

I suggest Freelancer or Dark Star One. You could go more old school and play Descent Freespace (1&2), Tie Fighter, etc (which in my opinion are a few of the best games ever made).

Sad that they don't make space combat sims anymore.

In an hour of Darkness a blind man is the best guide. In an age of Insanity look to the madman to lead the way.

MMOs are a medium which give you the tools to roleplay, or do other things. Some support and encourage roleplay better than others. Yes, some include stat ladders and mini-games but their inclusion does not inherently exclude the presence of roleplay.

If what you say is true, how did I run an RP guild in WoW? =P

Good game. I got Terran Conflict recently but didn't go into it too far. If he's looking for single-player space combat, I'd definitely point him that way, too... despite the game's faults.

I played freelancer, it was legit, but I don't have the cd anymore, and don't care to get it. Maybe, I'll check out Sins of a Solar Empire. I'm currently playing the eve trial, but I'm remembering why I never kept playing the last time I did the trial.

Is there a clan corp you all are in or anything?
If so, I saw EVE Online has an API that can be used to pull stats. I could possibly leverage that to make folks' EVE involvement more apparent on the site.

Sirus and myself are in Dreddit. Rat is in another corp and another alliance that is friendly with ours... I'll find out who that is.

I don't know who bloodhands works for... We rarely speak. But yeah, the api bit... Currently this is how we keep track of stats: Every time you kill another player or a player kills you, you copy/paste the killmail to our killboard. In our case this board is located: http://killedby.dredd.it/

Jesus...
That's definitely a side to EVE I never saw. Pretty epic. I just wish I wasn't such a PvP pussy. I nerdrage horribly when griefed in that game.
