I dont know what it is, but just recently, 3 times today, I'm playing video games and all of a sudden my monitor just wigs out. I'm not talking computer crashing blue screen of death kinda stuff but rather stuff that makes my monitor double as kaleidoscope. Now I'm not sure if it's only when I play video games or not, but seeing as how it's only happened when I do, chances seem pretty likely.

I only dusted it off last week and I was really thorough believe when I say this thing is spotless, running some scans with spybot and nod32 to see if they come up with anything, I'll check for loose wires or something after that

Question:

Are you able to still see the game only that your environment is all colored up like if you were on acid?

Or does the display completely block you off from the game itself seeing the entire screen in full solid/multi colors?

My old video cards nvidia 6600 GT and recently before its death nvidia 9500 GT had sorta similar effects. When I played MW2 the entire map was completely fucked up in terms of textures. The floor was painted in tiles of the Task Force 141 Logo, the walls were tiles of an AK-47. And all the player models glowed green or red. All the text was simple blocks thats unreadable.

If its similar to that, I wouldn't think it be the video cards but something wrong with the motherboard itself. My motherboard is the peice thats completely dead. I know 100% that it's not the video cards at fault. Thats my only logical reason what the problem could be...... If any of those are the problems you are experiencing.

So I'm convinced it only whigs out when I start playing video games. I dont know why but I had my computer running for 3 hours today doing scans making sure it's not like a virus or something and it was fine the entire time. Afterwards I start up a game (killing floor) and not 5 minutes in does it start going crazy. Of course now I think enough damage has been done because now it just trips out on its own from time to time.

I have had the exact same problem with 2 of my cards. My 8800U went all spazy, then died. RMA'd that and got a 260, that worked fine, got my 295, it worked for a while, and then sometimes it fucked up. Everything was, well, I can't explain it. Muff saw it, ask him. Make sure you COMPLETLY clean out you GPU heatsink, and fan. It sometimes has blockage you you need to clean it. I repartitioned and all was good. But I'm going to say it's your drivers. Use driver cleaner and remove the drivers, and install the latest.
Jeeps don't get stuck, they just take breaks.

I hate to say it but it sounds like your in the same boat as me. Double check to see how your motherboards south bridge chip looks like. Cause as far as we having the same problems go. Your motherboard looks like it wants to join the same grave as mine.

My southbridge fan died sometime early last year. The mobo seems to have lasted for the rest of the year and then some before it completely died. My PC still boots up but its very rare, even so when it does I don't get anything in the display.

What is your current video card?
