Not a real big smoker, I just started smoking cigars and maybe have one once or twice a month, sometimes not even that often. I don't inhale, even if I wanted to my lungs cant handle smoke too well. I was wondering about a couple of things.

1. Are cigars a cleaner burn than cigarettes? Do they contain less chemicals etc.
2. How much health risk am I putting myself at even if I'm not a really big chronic smoker?
In an hour of Darkness a blind man is the best guide. In an age of Insanity look to the madman to lead the way.

depends on the brand but typically no, not really. Tobacco is just bad news in general. It naturally contains trace amounts of radioactive elements and other carcinogens.

a considerable one. humans aren't meant to smoke tobacco. Or anything for that matter.

The only thing I can tell you is that I remember reading somewhere that smoking a cigar is equal to 10 or so cigarettes. Don't let this become a habit for you, damn things eat up your cash, and shorten your life. I could see smoking maybe 1 or so in celebration for an incoming kid with your buddies is it but other then that you should consider to quit now while your ahead.

yeah but dying of mouth and throat cancer is terrible. I wonder if many smokers think back and say: "yeah, the buzzes I got for the last 25-30 years were worth this...I think I'd do it again given the opportunity to have another go at life"

- Sadly they prob would..its fucking crazy! I had an employee who had smoked since late teenage years, he got diagnosed with malignant lung cancer 1.5 years ago. Coughing up blood, Chemo made him a skeleton, etc. He got cleared and off treatment about 9 months later....Immediately started smoking again. I was like WTF? It almost kills you and you suffered horribly for almost a year and you go right back. Well he was rediagnosed with lung and brain a couple months later....re-entered treatment for a while. Decided to give up a few months later and go into hospice. Unfortunately he died last xmas eve. 52 years old, and statistically wasted 20 years of his life for a lil buzz every day. Sad.

The occasional cigar isn't such a bad thing...however yes, long term, consistant use will do some damage. I've heard of a person that smoked so many cigars, that a cigar shaped hole was created where the 4 front teeth used to be. Cigars are ideal for celebratory use, or social use. I like Swisher Sweets with the wood tips myself, they're easy and cheap...just like Saber's mom.

So basically, keep doing what you're doing. Just make sure you don't do it more.

Jesus christ this thread is depressing.

Are cigars worse than cigs? Yes.
Is it cool that you're doing 1 or 2 a month? Yes
Are they much more worth it than cigs? Yes

A cigar and a double shot of whiskey on ice? Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes.

A good brand will have an amazing burn and leave a good after taste... don't waste your money on those cheapy ones that make your mouth instantly retch. Quality quality quality.

Well they are pretty bad for you. Though its not like your smoking shisha, that would be worse, so really just do what you want, be careful with it, and take the risk if it pleases you to do so. Life is so short you should have fun, but you only live once (unless your religion deems otherwise) so try and be careful.

Plus trying it once won't kill you.
Hopefully.

45 years from now you have a chance of canser, possibly... but get this the surgeon general came out and said, cigar and pipe smokers outlive non smokers by 5-10 year. its a relaxint!! (if your new to cigars and you want to try a really good cigar, but not one thatll knock your ass off, id try an "Isla Del Sol" there kinda sweet, but its the tabaco not the tips, so it has an amazeing flavor.)(3-5$)

Coming from a frequent cigar smoker...

If you enjoy smoking a cigar, more power to you. Is it bad for you? Yeah. But if you like it, will it kill you? Probably not. Granted that if you smoke a cigar a day, then yeah, it's bad news for your health. But one here and there won't do much either way. Just do yourself a favor and never buy low-end cigar from a supermarket. Be sure to buy from a tobacco shop where they keep the cigars in a humidor. Once you taste the high life, you realize why a good cigar will cost $5+ per stick.

I say life is short and enjoy it while you can.

Cheers.
