Okay...so what now, you're thinking.

Whut is gone, but the site will be "okay" for the time being. The servers will be fine for the next month or so, but we really don't have much of a choice but to rent one out in the future (Whut's words really). pDs also has no "official" clan leader any longer. Most of the other things Whut dealt with are also up in the air like Hlstats and whatnot. Nearly everything is up for grabs or "dependent" at this point.

There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes to get this community to run right. Whut basically made that evident to me the day I became admin and then some, so many months back. Admittedly, I don't want to be in this kind of situation, but unless somebody here wants to run EVERYTHING and help stabilize the community, the forums, pDs, the servers, and whatever else, than I'd suggest you take a minute to see what I have planned towards December and afterwards.

If you don't care and think I'll fuck up everything, then leave. I don't want you here. Know why? It's simple really -- I'm about to give up what personal life I do have so that this place can stay around, and so that everyone here and beyond can keep their hangout spot. Say I'm a douchebag for trying at all or even retarded for thinking I can handle this -- I don't care. If you have the nerve to insult me, then I'm pretty sure you don't have the balls to help me out.

From talking to Whut today, I've been given a big personal choice to make. Deal with what's already in place with pDs, or don't bother with anything at all. Those are my options. I care enough to try, so I'm giving it my all.

Again, we're fine for the next month. Nothing will change. However, we will be investing in new server(s) towards December. Yes, we'll still have The Tempest, but it won't be the towers Sirus now owns. Here's the reason: the amount of money it takes to maintain the cost and bandwidth on that tower is a lot of money. Sirus's personal involvement with the clan is also skewed, meaning we'd literally be renting from him directly. That can go in any kind of way, and from a business standpoint, it's unstable. Realistically, we don't get enough donations to fuel a fire that big, anyways. We are not at the pinnacle of clandom anymore, so to speak, which means that we need to scale down our expectations, rethink how we're supporting our infrastructure, become efficient in said areas, then expand to new venues that will get us back on point.

Whut was efficient at maintaining quality to allow both our casual crowd and our guest pop into our servers, play a bit, then leave whenever they pleased without feeling like the servers were garbage and ill-kept. That's been an up and down factor lately, despite the fact that TF2 is dipping in popularity. Efficiency and quality to allow others to kick back, relax, and have a good ol' time -- THAT was one of our standards and will remain as such from this point on. Future games we invest into will be largely dependent on the community and rather or not we have the money to fuel such endeavors. This includes, and doesn't exclude, scrimmage servers and private servers if there is enough community support for them. In other words "You better enjoy what you ask for, son!"

In short, we're simply popping all the air pockets, looking at what we need, removing things that make no sense for us anymore, and creating continuity. If you don't want to read through my wall-o-text, this is what's going to happen towards December if not into the new year:

- New Server(s) -- The new Tempest(s) -- either in December or next year. I'm not jumping into that right now -- there's no point. Expect only one server in the future for now.

- A change in the amount of money requested for donations. It'll probably be within the $70 range, minimum, and up. So it's known now, I CANNOT do what Whut did. I do not have the money to pay for everything like this. Community support is vital now, hence why I'm making everything a bit more feasible for everyone, so that everyone can be happy at the end of the day.

- New Server Admin responsibilities. You server admins know why I'm mentioning this.

- New Forum Moderator responsibilities. Guess who mods all the forums? I DO! Guess who deals with all the recruits? I DO! How about we level the playing field out a bit and get 1 or 2 people helping out here outside of just me.

- A revamping on certain rules that just fell apart over the years or are not being maintained well enough.

Again, I'm not here to dictate any of you or drive what remains of pDs & wdfnews.com into the ground. I do, however, want to make sure we last as long as possible. I don't plan on being some kind of Whut version 2, with a new nice mode feature, and a hyper mode button. I don't even want to be the leader over members who've not only been here longer than me, but are older than me! I simply want this place to stay alive since APPARENTLY there's this mentality right now that we're finished because Whut said so. No. He wanted to leave -- it was a decision he needed to make for himself and it was clear he was on that road months ago. Our job now, as a community, is to stay orderly, take things a problem at a time, and not go emo. Simple.

...and now you know...because knowing is half this battle...

I'm shitty at leaving... but believe me, I am.

Just read this.

When I made the decision to leave I figured it would just end. I didn't consider people would actually want to keep this place alive. Then I realized that this place isn't just about me, it's an idea. An idea shared by all of you. There's no reason for it to die. I laid the brickwork so you could work in the office... or something.... I'm not very profound.

So... I hereby name Mr. 12 new leader of everything. This is my final acting adventure burrito or something.

I love most of you.

I can mod the forums since I'm always around. Even when I'm in Greece. How much does it cost to maintain HL stats btw.

My two cents. 12, the only way I have seen this work, in gaming, work or life is to make it your own. Even if that means renaming pds. Your rules(based on community input) your way. Don't try and hold on to the past, those days are gone.

No you are not, you maintained this a great personal expense for many years but now your life is moving in another direction and you just simply can't do it anymore. We, or atleast I, don't hold that against you.

The words "of everything" now enables everybody to say "I blame 12" in excess. That's going to be fun. lol

It costs $7, if I'm right. Donations will cover this. I'll make a more formal thread for people who want to be mods and admins in the future.

We have 5 recruits in limbo. You have access to the private forums and the polls. Simply do what I do and setup their votes once it's time. There's not much to it unless you want to do what I do and create crazy stories about how some of them are wife snatchers or war criminals. =P

I really don't plan on holding onto anything Whut created outside of the basic stuff laid out already (the clan tags are fine), because, as like many of the things I've experienced in game development, the ideals and work of one man can never be retrofitted into the ideals and work of another.

Don't take this personal or offensive in anyway. But as soon as a different person takes over and starts to change things, it eventually starts to turn into something new/different. Unless the main principle stays the same, it will inevitabley be a "new" clan. It's not just the name of this place but as exactly as Whut put it, its the idea behind it all. That being said there can truly only be one WDFNews.com / {pDs}.

So the only true way to keep this place going as we all know and love is quite simple. Just keep it going as is, change nothing, with the exception of additional help on forum/server duties. Sure this place had its changes but only to the point of when they needed to be necessary.

A quick piece of advice: If being in many clans has taught me, the basics for a successful clan is simply the foundation. Without a solid place for everything the clan cannot be. If this place must go on then the website itself must be a priority in making sure its always up. Since Sirus owns the server this site is on, there must also be a possibility he could take it down when ever he wants.

So this site must find its own place.

I'm completely with you about all this. Making things up is a bit pointless considering what we have to work with right now. We know what kind of server we need, we have a site, there's a genuine image people have about the clan, and we have an assortment of standards in place -- we're set, really.

What I simply can't do is plug in the holes Whut filled in on his own. The amount of money he needed to keep things up was really out there. That's something I can't do realistically, and since the foundation of the community was almost literally built around that, his own affiliations, and associates, we need to revise how all that's handled so that the community doesn't simply die. A self-sufficient wdfnews.com/pDs -- that's my ideal goal for the time being.

I've already gone into conversation about this matter with some folks -- it's a critical one, obviously. We have some options, but I don't want to make a gut decision on a whim just yet. The most common feedback I've gotten about this matter relates to migrating the whole forum to a new host. Again, that's a huge task to carry out and we would have to figure this out as a community over time.
