I understand a few fake numbers.. Hay this server has 1-3 people. I'll join. Oh wait, I'm the only one in here... But when the fake numbers are set to 16, 19, and 32? That's just an outright blatant lie. It's offensive, really. That's "bumpin'" status, only to find out you're alone. Echooooo. Please, please, please, if it's going to stay up, lower the numbers, to at least something below the HLStatsX threshold for points. silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... Meh nothing you can do we been complaining about the fake playercount for a long time I see more people come in and say "wtf it said it was 20/?? " and then leave or just come in see its empty and leave and get pissed off about it lol they think it helps so i guess it stays /shrug it doesn't change the fact that most people think Jews are much like the Ferengi of Star Trek. More interested in acquiring "profits" than anything else. -Erkdog

IIRC the servers didn't always have the fake player count. Certainly not when the Tomb was around. It always seemed like there were 12 actual players playing. What happened? I say ditch the fake count altogether and promote the server in a legit way. I try to get the server going whenever someone schedules a Pigpile event but then nobody else shows up. People should at least show up to get the server going and leave if things take off. Or leave after like a half hour if nobody shows up.

Yeah, its just annoying to have those fake numbers up. I always check the servers to see if there's actually anyone in there. If they were legit, then I wouldn't have to waste a few precious seconds of my life. Also, its just plain dishonest. I can understand if they haven't updated or whatever, but 20 players...c'mon man. I don't care about for me; I'm thinking about what it looks like to players unfamiliar with the servers / site. I think it does hurt...I know it annoys me, although I don't really care because when I do play at tempest it's where they usually need help filling it up. I think something around 10 is much better then 23. If i join a server and I see its 23/32 I'm ready to play, not sit in a server with 5 people. So I'll usually leave, if I join that server again in the future, and the same things happens, I'm prolly gonna remember the name, and not visit it when i see it on my history. I think a lot of other people feel that way. Also, think about it this way, if i know a sever has real clients, I'll join it anywhere from 14-full. However, if one has fake clients, I won't join cuz I know there are prolly less then 23 people in there. Even though there could be in-fact 18 (ideal for me), now I will only join if the server is 23+ which usually means its full. I honestly don't think fake clients help out, I think it hurts your server popularity. If people like big servers, then they will be upset when they have to play a 6v6 and they can't spam all day. I honestly think people remember what server has fake clients (especially sense there aren't many "tempest" servers out there) and I think they avoid them when they see it at that number. Yes... we tried to live without.
No fake clients = empty all the time
Minimal fake clients = empty all the time
Mega fake clients = fills up quickly during peak times
Looking right now, it seems that someone has indeed turned off fake clients again. It will be amusing to see how this weekend goes.

I will say that 1 has been full a couple times tonight, but the server crashed on regular cycle map change and on a RTV map change. 3 also crashed on a admin initiated map change. don't know if its related, but it tends to empty the server.
