To the powers that be: PLEASE lower the amount of points lost upon death. Our regulars, the ones I like to play with, the ones who have made these servers so popular aren't showing up for the matches we once had. I have talked with alot of em, and they just don't like or understand why we have to lose avg 50 pts/death. The ones that do show up, quite often, end up leaving cause they are sick of loosing all these points. Besides that, its stupid. The points don't go to anyone, they just disappear. If you insist on taking away points from the top players at a higher rate, then I propose the max points you lose is double what the killer gets. I was 50:10 last night on Goldrush and down points for that map. How ridiculous is that? I know this has been debated before, but now we are seeing the ramifications for the outrageous point losses. The loss of our regular players.

Oh jesus. Has anyone mentioned to these ppl that they dont get jack shit for being in the top 10, or that Mrs Crawdad wont be sending them a pie when they reach 500000 points? I am sorry if i am coming off a bit obtuse here, but it just seems childish beyond belief that people refuse to play because they don't see a fake point total increasing in a constant x/y slope. ROFL. Maybe this is just some greater pyschological issue, an interesting demonstration of mankind's unique need to aquire and horde resources (even when they are make believe)? I dunno. If its really that big of a deal, I will give them all a Million Giller points and every kill they get 100 more giller points...and every death they get 2 giller points. When they log on..they get 2 million more giller points. But if they kill Giller, then all thier points are transferred to Giller...which he uses to buy Candycane unicorn dreams... Tally hoe! Quote:

Can I exchange Giller points for mustache cream and a pony? I am okay with Mrs. Crawdad not giving me pie, as we all know the path to righteousness can only be found through the rising goodness of cake. Biscuit-cake, that is. Wait, what do points have to do with ability? I find that my points are always quite low, but my value to the team as comedic influence is priceless. I should get points for each drunken Haiku I improv on the spot. I should get even more points when I make a joke nobody gets, cuz that's art, bitches.

Given that the consensus is that points don't matter, why not put them back the way it was? Losing 50 is better than the amount you lose now.

You can call me a whiner/bitcher/complainer all you want, but the fact of the matter is that lately I've seen more of the {pDs} regulars over on CMS's server than on The Tempests.

I understand your point, the points don't really matter, and i think there are only a few that honestly take too seriously. However, Hlstatsx is an attraction for the server. It might not matter to you, but to some (myself included) it's a pretty cool thing to keep track of, and to show how you are doing compared to the rest of the players in the game. Now, this doesn't mean i go hit my head on a wall because i lost 150 points, but if other servers (Green Eggs and Mayhem, The Duck Pond, and other servers that Tempest regulars are going to) are offering a point system that is more to their liking, then they are going to play there. Of course, overall, the point system has nothing to do with what i liked about Tempest, it was the regulars there that were a ton of fun to play with. So if the regulars are going else where, I think you guys should try to do something to get them back, and i know some of them are leaving cuz the point system is annoying them. Even though we (CMS) recently got a new server, and pDs and other Tempest regulars come play in there, I would still love to see Tempest doing great. I don't play there as often now, but when I do its still a great server, and i would hate to see it lose more activity, and more regulars. Good luck guys. Cake is Satan's loofah. Pie is the most holy of foods. I will not have the name of pie blasphemed in the house of the lor... a forum where nothing of real importance happens, without a strong waving of my finger coupled with a spiteful glare! I dont even care about the points. All they indicate is how long you spent playing the game on the server. Being in the top 20 doesn't mean you're a good player it just means you play a lot more than others. That being said I agree with Giller and LOL hardcore at the people who throw fits over a loss of virtual points. I also LOL at the fact that there is a good chance I am indeed better than most of the top 30 and I play sporadically. However, though I think point rage is ridiculous, for the health of the servers (even though they're constantly full) we should reduce the points lost. I'm the leetest one here

You'd be surprised how many good players are in the top 30 that don't have a lot of time spent on the server, and are indeed good players. I know most of the people that make up the top ranks, and I can easily say that most of them are good players. There are some people that have good ranks simply because they have hours upon hours on the server, but there are more that are up there because they are consistently on top at the end of the round. We can reduce the point loss, but its not going to bring regulars to play solely at the tempests anymore. Time will prove me right...but the cause of this isnt points. Its that the regulars have gone off and created servers of thier own. Its the existance of those servers and the fact that regulars now split time on thier own servers and the tempests. Its the regular/friend composition of the servers that dictates where ppl go. I know i split time at the tempests and teh duck pond based on who is playing where. If more of my friends are on tempest...i go there, if more are rockign the duck pond...i go there. Does it mean that I dont support the tempests anymore, hell no. I have given alot of hours and alot of money to tempests...and will continue to do so. Quote:

I usually am just hanging around Tempest 2 and I'm still not getting sick of 2Fort but when I want to play other maps I'll probably head over to the [CMS] server to check it out. I see more of my friends playing on that server than Tempest 1 or 6. Also I approve of losing less points when you die simply becuase my jumping demo antics drain my points.

I don't really care about the points either, but it's just a case of frustration. While I know very well how little they matter, it still sucks to be #1 frag list, high ktd, and at a loss of points on the map. Even more frustrating when you're watching other guys you know are good gamers sitting back playing non-point-loss classes like engy just because they don't want to lose their points. I don't think ANYONE here actually cares about the points as if they matter, we don't really need them as a virtual pissing contest, but they're there. And just like the frag list, they make the game just that tad bit more fun and interesting. That happening, it just sucks when you get points peeled off like nobodys business.
I admit i have a problem, I still enjoy playing 2fort on temp2. But damned if I'm playing "its raining large scottish cyclopian ebony adonises" and forfeiting a boatload of points just because I'm having fun. So I play engy....and get bored and head over somewhere else or just play some other game.
It's NOT that points matter, but they're there. And because of that, it affects the game. Taking them off of temp3 would literally make that game more fun to play. Having them there, and seeing it affect everything else, even though again, I know they don't matter, it still just gets annoying. And if I'm getting rolled by someone because I'm busy being stupid or drinking, its just one more annoyance that I don't want to deal with.
Quack.
