I'm pretty checked out of this place. I don't have any interest in even firing up TF2... or any Valve game for that matter. I'm burned out.

I see in my absence that this place has fallen apart.

So, I'm open to suggestions.

Is this a: "im closing down the servers" thread.

Or a :" I need a new game to play with ppl" thread.

Didn't you say you were playing WaW? Is that any good? I want to get it but 50 bucks is ridics... I'd only get it if I was convinced it was a super fun game.

What turned me off of CoD4 was mostly the airstrikes and helis and how ridiculously easy it was to rack in kills using them. Did WaW fix this?

For as long as I've been involved with the site, it's been driven largely by a single game (TF2), so it's only logical that since very very few games hold people consistently for many years (Starcraft comes to mind), activity at the site would slow as interest in the game waned.

As to where we go from here, I don't think it's something we can "force" on people. You can't make people play TF2 and you can't cause spontaneous interest in the site by saying "Okay, we're all going to play 'X' game." TF2 was a unique game since unlike MMOs, console games, even other Valve games like L4D, the game servers drove people to the site, and some fraction of those people stuck around and joined the community. Just saying "Okay, we're all going to play 'X'" relies on the current community to fuel the game, when really it worked the other way around.

Short answer on what to do: I don't know. I'm assuming that TF2 won't be the last game of its kind with the power to drive communities, so when the next one comes along hopefully WDFNews will be around to be a hub for it. In the meantime, come here as you like, post, discuss, talk about games and other things you like, and eventually the communal consciousness will coalesce once more.

I've thought of this less as a TF2 clan and more as a gaming community.

Whether or not that's WDF's intent, I don't know. But throwing hands up and saying "No, I don't wanna" just doesn't do it. I understand that you've dumped immense effort and investment, both personal and financial, but you should understand also that those things aren't totally necessary for a group of people such as we to come together and play. You can't just money your way toward a larger or tighter or whatever-you-want community. I'm not saying you've done nothing - you've done more than any other gaming leader I've ever heard of - I think you've come to see this place from an angle that would give you the idea that it's "dead" or "broken" or "falling apart" when in fact, it is none of those things.

You complained that the servers were empty and unused, that this whole place was falling to hell under your careful watch, and then won't come to play when they are full and people *are* playing. Not just "people," in fact. Us. You lost interest in the games. This jaded you to the social aspect of it and, expecting some immense tear-jerking investment to fix it like magic, you slaved away as best you knew how, failing to turn your eye toward the comings and goings of your community, content to watch it from afar and remark upon the failure it represents to you, when you yourself refuse to further immerse yourself in our world. You'll dump all the effort in and do the part that sucks, but staunchly refuse ( unless I'm misreading it ) to do the fun part and play with us. What could that possibly get you? Pity. For a while.

It's not like it used to be? It's not what you've paid for?

We're doing just fine, thanks.

In the way of suggestion, I agree with Endyss. An order of "we play this game now" won't do anything. Just do something with it. See what happens. What game do you like playing? Go go go. I'll put a foot forward and say that the next game you put a server up for, I'll buy it on the spot and campaign to get others to play it.

IIRC When I started coming to this website it was at its height. There always seemed to be at least 3 or 4 pDsers on the Tomb or the Crypt, at any time of the day. Then after a while people got bored.. started going back to school, joining the military.. then TF2 showed up and more people started playing again. So except for the whole financial situation, I see this as just another valley amongst valleys and there's probably some upcoming peak, just like a sinusoid.

Everything is vibrations, maaannn.

I too am getting bored with TF2 but I still play it cuz I have no life. I would be willing to try out a new game as long as it looks good. Suggestions? I like FPS btw, but unlike my sexual orientation I will try anything once.

I've been playing on your servers for a few months now. I don't see any lack of activity on your servers. They take minutes to get active, and you have regulars willing to get your own server active, outside of the pDs clan, or even the group of admins. I think your servers are doing just fine. Although 4 and 5 never really get active, if a few people go in there, they aren't that hard to get going. (I actually don't know why more people don't play there, gold rush and dustbowl are amazing maps.) [CMS] has been a clan (including the clan we were before CMS) for about 2 years. We started in FEAR. After that died out, finding a new game was hard. You really can't say "Ok all this is our new game." When people joined that clan for another game. We tried that, we went to tf2, and then cod4. Our TF2 section is active now cuz we started recruiting in that game, but half the clan is on cod4, or not even playing a clan game. I'm just trying to give advise on what i have experience with. If you decide to add a new game to the clan, you better make sure you have a core group. Otherwise it is very hard, and you'll have to recruit. I would say, stick with TF2. New maps are coming, and new updates. I know the game can get old, but try switching classes or your play style. Maybe find new maps or something to play on. I have noticed less pDs on, but that happens. People that were once on all the time have to go deal with irl issues. I would suggest trying to recruit a little more. That is what we did at CMS when we were getting bored of just the 2-3 people playing tf2 and getting on TS. You guys are an extremely fun clan. I've played with a bunch of your members, and they are all a blast to play with. I am certain that people will want to join your clan. You guys have fun, and that's what people look for in clans.

I wish you guys the BEST of luck. The tempest servers are a bunch of fun and pretty dang active. Tempest #1 is in the 97th percentile of TF2 servers. Every1 gets bored of a game, however, I don't think that is reason to leave it behind. TF2 is going to be around for a while, I would suggest against giving up on it.

As far as funding the site, have you considered pimping yourself or Sirus out?

I really don't see you playing much ever, of any game...so I don't know that its one game that is lacking, or that could turn you around for any lasting period.
I think i have heard this before: Its called letting us down, easy. I completely understand if that's your decision. Its your investment and if the PC gaming thing just isn't doing it for you anymore...then what can we expect.
I for one will continue to play TF2 or whatever with all the friends I have made via the community. I keep playing TF2 not because every night the gameplay blows me away. I keep playing because I enjoy the company of friends.

Lead: Cod WaW, in my opinion, is more fun than Cod4. In WaW, you get artillery and a "pack of dogs" at certain kill streaks. The artillery isnt too overpowering (unless youre on a server of 50+ people) and the dogs, while they may be overpowered, you still have the chance of killing them before they get you.

I wouldnt expect a price drop any time soon. Even Cod4 finally dropped the price by $10...and it was released a year before WaW.

If you like world war 2 era style, the idea of the ranking system, I would think about getting it. I have had it since November.

Anyways, this is just another point like it was after HL2DM died down. At that point, we basically said "let's hope and wait for the next community game to come out." ---And there was tf2.

When I first started here what drew me in was basically how the servers were run. I was a majority player in the DoD part of this clan. I wasn't really much into the HL2:DM section as I wasn't paticularly good at it which brought down my fun factor. After a few months Ive noticed its not just how the servers are run but more of the people I played with are. Ive never been in such a laid back gaming community as this one, and usually all the ones Ive been previously in usually demand people to always be active.

Every day now since I came in here Ive mainly look forward to play with those people, theres just something epicly magical about this place that seems to draw out some of the best people of all kinds.

It doesn't seem like it doesn't matter what game is being played anymore as its more about the people we spend time with playing w/e game. I'm sure sooner or later we're all going to eventually find something we can all play at thats fun and not too boring to end up losing peoples interest.
