Crawdad graduates in August-ish with his PhD in Analytical Chemistry. All I know for certain is that he does not want to teach. Find him places to apply that need PhD analytical chemists. Go! You suck. And you are mean. :) There is a 100k Spectroscopist position open in Kansas city. But given our collective complete lack of any real knowledge of Crawdads experience or interests, I don't expect we can help too much. One of my very best friends is close to graduation with his PhD in analytical Chem from Purdue, and I know from talking to him how vastly one doctorate experience can vary from another depending on what research programs you participate in. It was not my intention to marginalize the post....I simply thought it was a veiled attempt at recognizing Crawdad for his accomplishment. I know some of those doctorate programs for chem can make you basically a research slave for a lot of your mid-late twenties. With low-no pay and terrible hours. So if he has gotten through that then he deserves some congrats. if you are still mad at me, I will bake you a Pie and send it fedex. Quote:

It really is just an attempt to pick people's brains and see if you can think of job opportunities that he and I can not. Any ideas (at this point) are appreciated. And where is that spectroscopist position in KC? (He may have already applied for it). Actually I already did the internship with black mesa, I fixed all their problems, simple work really. Then they conveniently "lost funding" and blamed it on the economic recession. Go figure...

With that degree can you work for a pharmaceutical company? Or do you need a degree in Pharma..cology? Check the DoE's website and I think they have positions available at all the National Labs under their umbrella. If not them then the individual lab's websites will do. I'm working for PNNL this summer, on their website it looked like they had a lot of positions open. Also, Craigslist has a science section if you want to stay local.

The laboratory I work for (www.bostwicklaboratories.com) has some locations in Oklahoma, but not Kansas, and unfortunately there are no job openings available. Next closest location for you guys would be Arkansas or Texas, and I'd be more than happy to ask around if you're interested. We're a healthcare oriented lab with the main focus being Urology (specifically oncology: bladder, prostate and kidney biopsies). However, they're expanding their work a bit more and are working on Hematology, Gynecology and Nephrology departments. YOU KNOW... if you don't care about moving I can always asked around our Tempe lab and see if there are job openings! ;) wrote:{pDs} TitaniumPhoenix: We're Mexican. Congratulations Crawdads! Have you ruled out post-doc positions in research? It sounds like you're looking for a industry job. I hear that the Medellin cartel is looking for someone to head up their quality control program. Do you have additional training in automatic weapons? "I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Pardon the bump, but any news on the employment front? Sorry if I missed it. UAB would be a good place to look.

Medellins aren't much these days, and I don't think quality control is really a problem for them. From what I've read production values in Colombia are the best they've ever been. The journey north may change that, but that's where skilled chemists are really needed. If you're willing to move to Mexico and work for people who carry guns you can probably find very high paying chemistry related jobs, if you talk to the right people. You may die a violent death but the pay is high. Anyways... Have you considered moving to Europe? Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.
