Back on Topic.

Sniper alternatives, other than his rifle. GO.

- Down-under Decoy - Drops a box on the ground from which inflates a scoped stance sniper decoy that lasts 25 seconds, or until popped by enemy fire.
LOL. That would be over the top, but hilarious.

I really like that idea and it also goes with the whole mantra of TF2.

Ok..how should I say this...

I think the scout got definate upgrades. The sandman is overpowered from the standpoint that it is a projectile weapon that stuns. I don't use the FAN much because I haven't gotten used to it, but I really think that the FAN is an upgrade from the scatter gun. Reload time is not as much as an issue as I believe Valve thought. What time it takes to reload is more than compensated by the knockback/confusion from the knockback.

Bonk...well Bonk is fail to me. I really don't see much use for it. James points out an obvious use, but to be honest, teams on the Tempests aren't organized enough to follow a scout for that short period of invincibility and take out the sentry, much less a sentry nest.

abridged version...Scout got 2 of 3 overpowered weapons.

The previous classes got not weapon upgrades, but balanced weapons.

My opinion is that the scout got upgrades, while the other classes got side-grades (if that makes sense).

Use to be overpowered the sandman was... But valve nerfed it pretty well where you only take 50% of the damage dealt to you when stunned. The stun isn't instant death like it use to be. You have a chance to fight back after the stun.

Both the FAN and Sandman is a even trade off. But if you don't think the FAN is an even trade off and still OP, then it's just one weapon. The pyro has Axtiguisher (h/e you spell it...). The heavy has sandvich.

The medic is still the best update. Blutsauger and ubersaw we're both upgrades and OP. Blutsauger makes medics immortal like. Ubersaw, High critical rate + 25% uber charge, you get a kill + uber charge.

On topic...

Sniper rifle with different effects depending where you shot.

Legs = -(X% movement/2)
Arms = -(X% accuracy/2)
Body = (X/20)Damage per 5 seconds
Head = (X)(Critical Multiplier - which is x3)
Nuts = -(X% movement)(2)
X = Charge %
-25% Charge rate
-(Addition nerf slot)-

Yes, sidegrades are what was intended which is why there is a huge controversy (or was) about the scout updates. The Bonk drink has some useful moments, but they are usually to detour things that are predictable. Some of the scenarios I can think of are forcing a demoman to pop stickies at Gravel Pit "A" tunnel or having a sniper waste a shot on a bonked scout so the medic can push out into the tunnel.

About the Sniper update though, I really hope Valve just ignores the public's ideas for this one. Their updates (before they consulted the public, that is) were probably the best ones so far. They were simple, balanced, and didn't come at the expense of nerfing other classes. That seems to be the trend with the update ideas... making one class' updates better because it negatively affects other classes rather than adding dynamic elements. Just because an update gives a new ability to a class doesn't mean it should weaken other classes. The Sandman was this. It made the scout more dynamic in a different way, but at the same time nerfed other players for it.

No game I play will have a bottle of piss as a power-up.

The others were cool though - I like the accuracy bar. Perhaps just a visual representation of accuracy ( growing/shrinking reticle ) would work.

Naturally, you wouldn't move while you sit on the stool. But that's still a really cool idea.

You guys should check out the new blog post valve posted for the sniper update. It seems like valve wants to make the sniper more closer to his targets which... doesn't seem to... help the sniper at all...

I have to strongly disagree with that. The only cloak character ever to be allowed is the spy.

OMG yes please!!

Have to agree here. Every time i snipe i always wish they would give you more dmg for headshots and less for bodyshots. Reward skill Valve!!

This part confused me.

"In an effort to reduce some of the aggravation that other players feel towards the Sniper, we chose the goal of designing an unlockable that encouraged the Sniper to get a little closer to his target."

So basically, they're creating an anti-rage-quit device. Players get mad when a sniper beans them because they feel like they were already occupied, making their death a simple result of circumstance and not because of their own failure.

The unlockable is, as all the unlockables have been, optional. So bitch and moan.

I'm sensing some high-accuracy medium-range weapon.

based on that blog, how about an old-school blunderbuss and pirate hat!
they might even give you a grappling hook that allows for melee range shenanigans

Sniper isn't getting a pirate hat...

Sniper is getting a tooth belt for a hat.
Demoman is getting an afro.
Scout is getting a baseball hat.
The rest gets "Class name" Hat.
Also we're getting special weapons for all classes that have different effect. Balancing for these weapons are 1:1 or 1:4 (100% slow down on hit = 25% damage reduction). So you might see... a rocket that shoots 100% crits but loses 100% ammo (doubt it but it's possible with the coding they dug up now), a new medi gun that charges 30% faster but overhealing only goes up to 120%, or even maybe... a flamethrower that has 25% more chance of random crits but loses 25% ammo capacity.

Also... it's not a full cloak. It's just to give you some cover while you sat there immobile. It follows the guideline of a sniper.
