Hello. Welcome to the new site. Those of you who tried accessing the site over the past couple hours via Firefox were met with a horrible, horrible sight. I'm sorry about that. Those of you that tried to access to site via Internet Exploder were greeted with a "broken link" error. Consider yourselves lucky. It's the only time you should be excited to have been using an inferior browser. I've found that if I whine long and hard enough about something that's broken, Sirus eventually gets so tired of hearing about it that he fixes it. In this case, it was the forums. The forums are now new and awesome. All of the old posts have carried over, though links to other posts in threads no longer work (i.e. "remember this thread?" threads won't have proper links in them... sorry). Many of the new features don't work yet and will be coming in the next few months. In the mean time, the forums work now and the site is now hosted on our own servers... so it should be much, much faster. Big thanks to Sirus for finally coding this pile of shit. Make sure you thank him and complement his gaping asshole placeholder picture. Also, big thanks to Vanson Studios for the template, as well as Matt Olson for his updated penguin artwork which we love so much. With that said, feel free to do what you always do and bitch and moan about how much better the old site was or whatever. We won't be listening. P.S. Donate, bitches. This artwork was expensive. The new site is awesome, and every single thing about it is superior to the old forums. A couple things I wouldn't mind seeing changed though:
- The Moderator column on the forum lists isn't very helpful and forces all the other columns into less space. If we had individual moderators for every forum that'd be one thing, but knowing that "Moderator" moderates a forum doesn't give people any info.
- I'd also like to see a little more contrast between the icon indicating new posts in a topic and the one for no new posts. Maybe drop the contrast on the "no new posts" icon a bit, so it's easier to tell them apart at a quick glance. The old site had a full color icon and black-and-white icon for them, something like that.
- The left bar with the user options is a bit wide... I'd narrow it down or move it in place of something like the Latest Game Downloads section.
- Unless I'm missing something, the post entry page is missing a lot of the text customization things that were in the old forums (bullet lists, smilies, etc.). This might be one of those features coming down the line, but just thought I'd mention it.
- The animated crosshairs are sweet, but I worry that after too much time they can drive people insane. Is there any way to just have them animate for 15 or 30 second, or 5-10 repeats of the animation?
Like I said, the new site rocks hard. Just the ability to reliably post, or accidentally navigate away from a post and come back to it without having it cleared, is alone worth the change. But the new layout, new scheme, new graphics, everything about it is truly awesome. Good work Sirus, good persistence Whut. Btw I'm back from my honeymoon.
