About halfway through a round on Badlands as a spy I see an unguarded sentry on the center point. I try to sap it and I get wrenched. Wut?

The death screen shows I got wrenched by an invisible character. An engy, Mack Daddy, who also got my sapper, was the culprit.

Chat transcript from the hlstats website:

(me)
2008-03-18 13:42:16 Say I said "that engineer is invisible".

(him)
2008-03-18 13:42:24 Say I said "which one?".

(him)
2008-03-18 13:42:31 Say I said "yeah right".

(me)
2008-03-18 13:42:51 Say I said "that sentry looked open".

I went to spectator to confirm what I saw. Yup, he's invisible. Suspiciously he reappeared in full less than 2 minutes after I posted my suspicions, but before that happened I took some screenshots of him and his sentry. I don't see any explanation as to how this could have happened. To be honest my computer is not perfect (I run TF2 on medium-high) but I see no explanations other than a material hack. I've never seen anything of the sort on any Source game, ever.

Screens, taken around the same time (the console's in the way but you can see the dude's invisible):

Had you alt + tabbed before that, because when u do that random people become invis and reappear at a random time again. Trigot got accused of cheating today because someone said he was invis and ya that person had also just alt tabbed before that. Happens all the time

I didn't alt-tab once during that match, when I do it lags my computer down trying to reload tf2. I didn't do anything abnormal, just went to sap the sentry and got clubbed by the invisible dude.

this could definitely be the invisible player bug rather than hacking. had you had any kind of lag beforehand? I often have a bunch of the enemy go invis after a bit of lag. sometimes with no lag at all. It could also be that someone figure out how to exploit whatever this bug is. it's been around for a few months now ever since one of the stupid updates.

I lag all the time but I have NEVER seen this before, and the reappearing as soon as I mention it caught my suspicion.

I've also heard the occasional complaint about invisible people running around.   I haven't trolled any boards to see if there is a bug or exploit that Valve is working on.

It helps all much more of people remember to record demo's of people hacking/glitching. This would serve as much harder evidence against them.

He went visible before I could start a demo. The screenshots and transcript is all I have.

yeah I can definitely understand that. as I recall the invis bug doesnt even show up in demos, so if someone has figured out how to exploit it then a demo wont be a whole lot of help.

EDIT: wrote the above reply to the wrong post. so here is the one I was going to write for this post:

It seems like a really specific kind of lag that technically is packet loss and not actual lag. My ping will show as being great but my net graph shows a rainbow of packetloss and I freeze up, then when I unfreeze some people will be invisible some of the time. They might stay invisible for the rest of the map or only for a few minutes or until I lag out again.  I've also seen it happen when there was no noticeable packetloss going on but I didn't have net graph up to actually see for sure. It seems like it is a pretty rare bug for most people but I know me and Llenta both get it more than most people.

Somebody said 'bot'  this stuff has been posted in many of the forums.. always the same 'guest' account, i.e. joined May 2006.. My guess is that it's somebody's real account that got owned somehow... I 've seen legit posts from this account before in the forums, just don't know who's account it is.. One of the forum Admins should be able to identify it by registration info.... and notify the person that their account is jacked.

The Guest account is a posting account shared by unregistered users. Some of the fora here allow unregistered users to post with the shared Guest account instead of having to register. Odds are it's either some Internet troll acting like an idiot or some automated thing using the account to post adds on the board. If there's a CAPTCHA for Guest posts, then it's probably someone acting like an idiot.

The account itself isn't 'owned' by any one person. The moderators and/or admins should be able to see the IP of the spam/bot posts and act accordingly, but I have no clue how this forum system works.
