I suppose some added information is needed.
On January 31st I initiated a cancellation of our subscription service with Art of War Central, as we were moving our server to NetRiver in Washington.
According to Paypal:
Jan. 31, 2008
Subscription Cancellation
To
Art of War Central
Canceled
So, I thought we were done. We then started up with NetRiver and I payed the $270 hosting fee for February.
On February 16th, Art of War Central charged me again through Paypal. I was rather confused by this, as I had assumed that by both canceling with AoWC and ending the subscription via Paypal that they would be unable to do this. I assumed wrong.
They deducted $220 from my bank account. This was in addition to the $270 I had just forked over to NetRiver, as well as the $20 or so I cover for hlstats and hosting stuff.
This put me in the red in my personal bank account that I use for these sorts of things. I received a call from my bank yesterday informing me that I was overdrawn. I knew I was, I have seven outstanding invoices waiting to be paid. I figured it was about $20, as I had been monitoring that account. Nope. Turns out I was overdrawn $405.50
Excuse me? Yeah. Turns out they compound overdraft charges. I have five overdraft charges of $36.50 due to AoWC billing me again after I had canceled. AoWC had refunded my money the same day (I had also filed a dispute with Paypal).
However, this was at the speed of Paypal. It took a while for all of that to go through. I initiated the transfer of the $220 they had taken from me wrongfully, but paypal electronic transfers take days to complete.
So, instead of $20 overdrawn, I'm $405 overdrawn.
I have filed yet another dispute with Paypal demanding reimbursement for the overdrafting. However, this too will operate at the speed of Paypal.
So, what does this mean? It means my moneys better get here asap.
It also means that all we have for hosting costs currently is the 90 some dollars through donations. At least until I get my paychecks.
I'm also hoping that we can get this resolved with Paypal and my bank.
I'm curious to know how, if I canceled on the 31st, how they were able to charge me again.
Anyway, this could be chalked up to a lapse in financial planning, but I was convinced that we were OK.
Side note: I pay the hosting bill on the first of each month. Donations are then accepted to reimburse me for the month I have paid for. We did not, and I repeat, did not take your money and spend it on unrelated stuff. We spend all donation money to maintain this community.
Anyway, thanks for everyones continued support.
