Here are some good sites to go to if you need help on mapping in case you haven't been pointed to them already:
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SDK_Docs the official valve site, where you go if you click on "help" in hammer.
http://interlopers.net/ outstanding site, best one besides the offical valve one in my opinion.
http://www.akilling.org/akg/ pretty good stuff here.
Edit: akilling.org was shut down due to lack of funds most of it's tutorials are being mirrored though: here
http://gamewag.com/hl2.html tons of well organized tutorials up there with interlopers but I haven't gotten to using it as much.
http://www.chatbear.com/board.plm?a=boardlisting&b=4989&v=flatold haven't used this as much either but they've got good stuff.
If you can't find what you need in a tutorial using the "search" function in the forums will almost always bring up the answers you need.
And for finding out what all those ***FATAL ERROR SYSTEM FAILURE IMMINENT*** from your compile log mean check this out:
your best friend
If you check the "This is a compile log" box you can be lazy and just copy and paste your entire log in and have it check for errors for you.

this is one i go to often. there are a lot of good mappers there. probably not a great beginers webpage, but there are a lot of usefull things on that website that people can use down the road to make thair maps better.

www.iwannamap.com is useful for me. they tell you how to do things a little different but its still helpful. i found more DoD things there than anywhere else.  Cantrip wrote:When I die, I want to be reincarnated as a woman's jogging bra.
