This pretty much-

Getting wound up that north korea is ever going to be a threat is pretty silly. We went to war there only as a battlefield to engage with Russia over, everything since then is just the Ghosts of War- Scary, gruesome, capable of causing fear and guilt, but nothing tangible that will ever be a threat.

They'd never be a threat to us directly, but they have the capacity to throw the region into chaos that would affect us indirectly. It's same kind of threat that Iran poses. We've basically taken both Israel and South Korea on as protectorates. Whether or not they deserve our protection is another discussion, but if they get attacked, we'd have to respond to some degree.

Israel seems hellbent on national suicide but South Korea is another story entirely. Also, North Koreans will make better sweatshop labor than Palestinians. More seriously, I think the North Korean elite recognize their predicament. They spend most their time drinking whiskey and chilling in a wasteland with nothing but capitalist pig propaganda to keep them entertained. I think deep down enough of them get the global media narrative to ensure anything other than reunification remains in the theater of realpolitik.

Also, I bought Team America on DVD in honor of Kim Jong-il. Dear Leader will live eternally through the power of LOLz
