In light of recent TF2 crashing problems, I dug in and found that one potential fix has to do with updating server software. Valve should probably release their own fix eventually, and I'm not sure what I'll do will help, but I'm taking the opportunity to do some major software upgrades. Hopefully the server will work right when done... as in... the whole physical server. Upgrading core software can be iffy if it hasn't been done for a long time...

Alright.. I got the core system files all updated, including the one that I've read might help stop the TF2 crashing problems. And the server itself seems to be behaving. So... yay! Tomorrow I'll take the next step and do a complete upgrade of all installed software (not just core OS files). There might be problems here and there, but none should be fatal and they shouldn't affect anything we care about.

Thanks Rik! I'm very sad that Popcorn had to go again...I love that mod. Also, I have noticed that my game doesn't crash on our server every single mapchange. Now it just does it every other mapchange. If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe. - Carl Sagan My Backpack

Also, I have noticed that my game doesn't crash on our server every single mapchange. Now it just does it every other mapchange. Bleh. Well, I don't think Popcorn was the culprit for the crashes, but it would also spam errors like fucking crazy if there was nobody logged in. I might be able to fix that one, but haven't gotten the chance to dig into the script yet. The crash seems to somehow be triggered by the new weapons that were introduced in the last patch. If the game has still been crashing since I updated the system software, plan B is add a weapon limiting plugin and disallow the use of those new weapons for now.
