Hello once again everyone. I have called you here to discuss with you an important matter. I will be purchasing a new laptop/notebook (why do they have two names?) before summer is over and I was hoping to gather some opinions on: 1. Who the best manufacturer is. 2. Have you had any major mishaps with any of your products. 3. Do you know a specific newly released model that I should look into. 4. Anything further you think I should know before making my decision. I've been doing some researching and decided that I would prefer a good length to the battery-life (6 or more hours), probably a 2nd gen. i5 or i7 (i7s use battery faster, hence my indecision), and not too large/heavy (I'm going to be carrying it a lot). I'm probably going to try to go into Fry's (A ridiculously large electronics store) and try to get a hands-on with the new stuff. I really really appreciate any help you can give me on the subject, as I have little to no experience with laptops, but need to get one. Well, I only have experience with Dells through my work. The older models I use to go through the keyboards very quick, but the newer ones have been more solid. However, my baby's found ways to demolish the sides of the monitor piece. I don't know how. Besides the physical hardships I put them through, the Dells have been pretty solid. I even used one of the older gen ones as a gaming PC for a time, and it worked far better than I expected. Long story short.... whatever you get, I'd recommend getting a damn good warranty. I'm normally not a warranty person but I'd gladly drop a couple hundred bucks to piece of mind with a laptop. They're more fragile than desktops and not nearly as easy to repair yourself.

Agreed with Rikaelus. I have used HP in the past with good results but have been told YMMV with them. I currently use a dell for work as well and like it pretty well. Also agreed that a warranty (accidental) is a good idea with laptops, or get it covered by insurance. {pDs} Lead Salad: bike why did you change your name Jessica343: so I can get heals {pDs} Lead Salad: oh damn good idea {pDs} Lead Salad has changed their name to {pDs} Lead Salad (is a girl) Jessica343: hahah

Okay, as far as Dell goes, the new XPS 15z looked pretty snazzy. The only thing I'm concerned about is the forced upgrade paths. There doesn't seem to be a complete customization ability when ordering it. Take a look and let me know what you think: http://www.dell.com/us/p/xps-15z/fs Quote:Razor: As hard as one might try no one will ever be able to pull one over on Super Penguin. Backpack of Win

Battery life will also depend on what kind of battery you have with mine it has a 6 cell and will last about 7 hours set on battery saveing option. but if i get the 9 cell i could get at least 10, now i have seen some you can get a 12 cell i think is the biggest i have seen and i have a intel dual core with a 15in screen which saves on battery also. I use Sager. Sager has the best warranties around. Pretty good prices too. My laptop is going on its third year and the only problem is that it overheats when its hot out and I'm playing games on it. Battery life is all about the bells and whistles. My laptop has only a few hours, maybe 2. I also have a pretty good graphics card and processor in it though. You can't go wrong with Dell though. They're pretty solid. I'm wondering what you're using it for. You might want to go with one of Google's netbooks. They're cheap(er than other laptops) and have good battery life. Also, you could theoretically trash your original computer and go out and get a new one and everything would be safe in the cloud. Neat! But...it would mostly be for school stuff - writing and email. So...yeah. I'm a fan of Sager. Dell is a workhorse. Google if you're feeling adventurous. If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe. - Carl Sagan My Backpack

Pretty sure I'm going to stick with the Dell XPS 15z. It's quite new. Battery lasts for 6 hours (as tested by review peoples). Small enough to carry around without sacrificing keyboard or performance. Super thin, meaning it will fit in anything/be lighter. All-purpose in a little shell, sounds good to me, haven't seen any bad reviews for it. Oh, and 2 USB 3.0 ports ^_^ Fast compatibility, yay. I just wish the keyboard was backlit, but I type pretty quickly anyway, so I'm sure I'll get the keyboard layout memorized. Also: Why have I never heard of Sager Muff?
