I have not renewed The Tempest and it is no longer online. There seems to be a declining interest in TF2 and the server has seen barely any action in the last couple of months. Also donations have been almost nonexistent for the last couple of months. I can't see any reason to shell out another $300 for a server no one plays on, with little hope of getting my money back. It was good while it lasted, and we had some great times on it, but I think its time to end it rather than try to drag it through another 6 months.

If anyone else wants to take up the Tempest banner, they are more than welcome to.

No shame in that. Thanks for keeping it going as long as you did.
Ladies and gentlemen, The Tempest has left the building.

Hm... shame on the timing since TF2 just went free2play for all...

Wish I could have been able to play more.

Yeah, the f2p thing might have been good...but I don't have the energy to recruit and keep a server seeded. =\

Well... I can take down my current TF2 and L4D2 servers and see if my server can then run The Tempest.

L4D2 was moderately successful in that the servers were regularly used thanks to the way L4D2 assigns people to servers, but it wasn't really used by any of us and it didn't seem to attract anyone's attention to WDFNews.com. The Prophunt server seemed to be a side attraction for a week or so before people got bored of it. And the Trade server never reliably went online... so probably no huge losses to get rid of all that.

I'm only $600 into saving for a new server, and I'm considering investing $500 of that into stocks I anticipate will go up in value. Either way it's a ways away still, and of course buying stocks is always a risk.

Anyhow... if enough people want to give it a shot I'll try dedicating my server to a lone TF2 server.

I'm game if we can do some regularly scheduled games to try to get some traffic

Well this is just nuts.

I was working on reconfiguring the Trade server to be generic and suddenly it's full with 16 people...
It seems now may indeed be a good time to bring back TF2.

And an update...

The Trade and Prophunt servers are, for now, gone.
I've updated and left the L4D2 servers online for now.
I've updated and put back online the Minecraft server (it doesn't really compete resource-wise)

And the old Trade server has been retasked as a new Tempest. And it's still full. So the settings a bit out of whack since I don't want to restart it right now and kick everyone off. It seems to handle 16 players well enough. I'll try to up it to 24 when the opportunity arises, but I think we'll see performance start to drop pretty quick.

Awesome Rik! I'm very excited and am going to go play on it ASAP. This is just what we need!

And Gunslinger: I agree. Scheduled play time would be a good way to renew interest in WDFNews and bring in some new faces. Therefore I nominate WDFNews Team Fortress Tuesdays. It could be any day really (we should probably start a poll with day and time options), that just sounds catchy.

I'd be game for that limitation.
I tend to think servers with a focus attract a more dedicated following.

I'll set up some polls and such in a bit. Got a lot of logistical stuff going on at the moment.
