Got a few games in your past that you absolutely loved playing, but no longer work on modern PCs or suffer from unbearably old graphics? Of course you do. So what are they? The games I'd love to be remade with modern graphics & sound: X-WingWing Commander 1-4 (even if it meant losing the live action sequences of 3 and 4) 1 2 3 4Battlefield 1942Star Wars: RebellionStar Trek: Birth of the FederationI'm really tempted to include Wing Commander Privateer, but I fear it just wouldn't measure up well to modern space simulators simply due to scale. The gameplay was revolutionary and great, but the limited number of ships, guns, etc., just can't compete with modern games of the same genre.

i have to admit, most games that i might put on this list, i know id rather have a sequel as opposed to replaying the same game again. however, there is one thing i've had on my mind that would HUGELY benefit from some sort of major overhaul: Pokemon. the game is actually an incredibly deep RPG, but it has remained almost trapped in 1997 (yes even with the new versions). if the game was given a real overhaul, dropped on a decent platform, hell even made into an MMO (see, this is what i mean about id rather have sequels) it would be freakin awesome :D Bah Weep Granah Weep Ninny Bong

The best one I've played was Pirates! -- I loved the original as a kid and the new one was great. There were subtle differences in the realm of minigames, but the core was definitely the same and it didn't change so much that it lost the original charm. I think Square's remakes of early Final Fantasy games were pretty authenticate, too. Maybe you just need the clout of Sid Meyer and Square to get away with remaking the same and not being accused of unoriginality. More often they just play it safe with "sequels" which allows them to modernize anything about it they want, even if it means moving away from what made the original popular and successful.

Mrs.Crawdad wrote:Duck Hunt 2nded Despite not being even the slightest bit of a good game, Id actually like to see Armorines cause I actually liked it, it was the only game that came close to an actual Starship Troopers game at the time. Speaking of Starship Troopers it be nice to see a GOOD FPS and strategy game remade. I honestly think the games never reached their potential. Robocop Perfect Dark Blast Corps Army Men Battle Tanks FF8 (fuck you I liked 8) Legend of Dragoon The original Silent Hill (the Wii remake was bullshit the only upside to this remake was how the game progression was affected by your decisions and the flashlight mechanic, it had no guns hence no epic boss battles. It was also heavily lacking in gore) Super Mario 3 (Granted Super Mario Galaxy is as close as its going to get but the powers you are able to use are either limited or timed. I want a tanooki suit along with more powers/costumes without restrictions) ahhhh_crap wrote:no, splinter has ethics and whut has emotions

Splinter wrote:FF8 (fuck you I liked 8) Ooh. Good call. 8 is probably my favorite FF game. I was a sucker for the love story in it, and Rinoa was hot. I tried playing that again a while back but man... as great as the game might be, I just couldn't handle graphics that old. Oddly FF7 I can handle but that's not trying to be "realistic" looking. I guess intentional cartoon design ages better.

The original Half-Life. I know there are "updated" mods and such out there, but nothing has actually happened in that aspect as of yet. It's terrible trying to play that thing. I want to go through the storyline again, but it's unbearable. Quote:Razor: As hard as one might try no one will ever be able to pull one over on Super Penguin. Backpack of Win

I'd want Wing Commander and Homeworld remade. Both are the best space games I've ever played. At least Eve has the SHEER SCALE that Homeworld had. Beautiful game. If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe. - Carl Sagan My Backpack

Both are the best space games I've ever played. At least Eve has the SHEER SCALE that Homeworld had. Beautiful game. That made me think of Imperium Galactica II. Now that was an awesome game. I can't recall how big the universe was (probably not that big) but there was also a ground-based component. Sort of live Civiliation, I suppose--you could set up planets to develop themselves, or take direct control and place a good number of unique buildings--and all of it was within a 3D engine. Then, to take over a planet, you had to attack its surface and take out certain buildings to claim it. So it was important to have defenses on every planet. I'd probably still play that game to this day except for one game-breaking problem it had: Unit stacking. It wasn't as bad in surface combat, but in fleet battles, uhg. Different races had different doomsday/super-weapons. One race had a lightning-like weapon that was super powerful. Just one ship with that could drill through a sizable stack of enemy ships in one shot, completely ignoring the concept of superior numbers having an advantage over a superior single-target weapon.
