A NEW YOUTUBE LINK HAS APPROACHED

(We're doing this bro. We're making it happen)

MODERN GAMING
Marvel VS Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds

Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom
Genre: Beat-em-up
Year: 2011
System: Xbox 360/PS3

Many years ago, during the birth of the Xbox in all its black-bricked glory, a game emerged that would be considered one of the greatest, most entertaining, unbalanced as fuck fighting games ever made. The sequel to the seminally popular Marvel VS Capcom became a game that would live on forever amongst gamers as one of the most frustratingly entertaining games ever made.
Then we heard plans no sequel would be made of it. That was perhaps three or five years ago we heard such a thing. And now we are here, with a sequel that has been nothing but a fable to Youtubers and blog posts. Does it live up to the dream? Let me tell you.

Story - While the first game had something of a story in dealing with a vicious beast known as Onslaught, and the sequel had absolutely nothing, this game decided to come with some semblance of one just like the first. Dr. Doom and Albert Wesker join forces to rule both their worlds, but unfortunately their struggle for supremacy has brought forth the attention of an even more terrifying force from beyond.
Seriously, that's the story. Dr. Doom and Wesker try to take over the world. It's a shame we don't have M. Bison in this game because this would have been fucking perfect for this moment.

Gameplay - First off, let's get some shit out of the way concerning the gameplay. I am very happy to inform you guys that the balance is WAY better than Marvel VS Capcom 2. The thing was, the previous game was basically just ripping sprites from games all over the place and as a result, they had no development relative to each other and therefore became heavily unbalanced against each other.
Also we all remember Iceman and his FUCKING IMPENETRABLE BLOCK which doesn't allow ANY damage at all to pass through it, and made him such a motherfucking cheating cunt. Thankfully however he is NOT in this game, at all.

(M.O.D.O.K did not appreciate being thrown around like a football, but damn did it ever win the match)

Balance-wise the characters are pretty well-evened out now that we have brand new models and movelists made for them all. We have fragile speedsters such as Viewtiful Joe, glass cannons like Jean Grey/Phoenix, and the mighty glaciers including Dr. Doom. Let me give an example. Phoenix, that is Jean Grey and I know, I thought Phoenix Wright as well but sorry guys, not this time, is one of THE most fucking overpowered bitches in the entire game with speed to match. However, she has ABYSMAL health and will pretty much go down with a hard enough hit.

Then we have Viewtiful Joe who is a pretty good example overall of a refined character. He's incredibly fast, not particularly powerful and has poor defence, but he has the advantage of being able to hit an unlimited amount of times in the air. Also he is FAR more better than he was in Tatsunoko VS Capcom when he was a pretty sucky fighter. Here however he is genuinely fun to play, helped by the excellently streamlined controls.
The controls themselves are actually incredible, some of the best I've seen for a fighting game. They have the layout of Smash Bros or moreso Tatsunoko VS Capcom, but they have just as much potential to pull off complex attacks.
You still have to go down-right for your hadoukens and all, which makes me wonder if this is not more a callback to the old arcade fighting system layouts than anything else, back when you only had two, three or maybe even FOUR buttons and a control stick.

(Now with 100% less boulder-pushin'!)

The level of complexity is deceptive in this game and you can easily be able to knock out some special attacks just as much as you will have problems trying to deal with other ones, so there is a challenge involved in trying to get to grips with the various characters and finding the right combos involved with them. The Missions are a great help with that, and they act exactly like the Trials in Street Fighter IV in having to do a certain series of movements, but they give you a good understanding of how the combos work with the new layout.

The online play is very smooth, with few hiccups I encountered even in the worst connections, and you can even personally invite friends into private sessions in a much easier and quicker fashion than in say, Super Street Fighter IV. There was also VERY little loading time for anything at all, with practically no time to wait for the next stage and its fighters to introduce themselves. As for the offline play itself, it's certainly more enjoyable than the previous game overall with only a few awesomely lush active backgrounds from both Marvel and Capcom, separate endings for each and every character, and a wide variety of music I will get onto later.
The only true misgiving of the entire game is the final boss.

(Even Iron Man has his standards, but that's what happens when you drink too much sake)

I won't spoil, in case anyone was REALLY trying to avoid spoilers as to who the final boss is, but I will tell you this now. You remember Onslaught from the FIRST Marvel VS Capcom? Huuuuge guy who took up half the screen, had a lot of laser attacks and huge-ass pounding fist action?
Yeah it's EXACTLY like that. You first fight against mimics or Dr. Doom, Wesker or Akuma, and they fight normally with only one health bar to deal with instead of three. THEN you face the big BIG guy himself.
And holy fuck does he ever get nasty with you. In fact I don't wanna be a pussy or anything, but you might wanna put the game on Easy first to be able to have any kind of strategy in handling him. Even then you'll get some pretty close calls with his massive pounding fists and immensely unfair laser beams that are almost impossible to avoid, so all you can do is block, carefully balance between your teams' health bars, and pray.

It is all worth it though since there's a crapton to unlock including a few extra characters not available at the start, as well as artwork, movies, endings, character profiles and voice clips, all of which are a pretty good way to chill out with.

(Going up against Magneto in a suit of armour is either ballsy-insane or incredibly stupid. Arthur is the former)

Graphics - Taking a less serious graphical form of Super Street Fighter IV's graphics, Marvel VS Capcom 3 has a gorgeous style. All the characters look real slick as well as their moves, some of which are immediately recognizable to their fans of course. The stages, while few, are impressively detailed with a lot of references and characters to the level of SSFIV, with my particular favourite being Kattelox Island (because fuck yeah Megaman Legends).
The action is unceasingly vibrant with the sweet-ass comic-book font of traces from attacks and occasional notes of AWESOME or VIEWTIFUL, all of which fits together splendidly.

Music/Sound - This might be a divider between people, but it all comes down to how much you actually like techno, as 2/3 of the game's soundtrack is primarily this and it's to be expected when it's being done by the same composer of Super Street Fighter IV. Some character themes are undoubtedly and untouchably AWESOME, such as Wolverine's theme which is an epic-as-hell rock riff.
Opinions may divide on others, such as Amaterasu having a techno remix of The Sun Rises, Super Skrull having an oddly aggressive techno theme that feels like a Pokemon battle theme, and Deadpool's rock-dirge theme which sounds awesome but has idiotically simple lyrics. Then again this might be quite fitting for Deadpool.

(SHOOORYUKEN!)

The voices however are absolutely spot-on with a lot of the characters having their voices reprised by their original actors such as Wesker, Ryu, Chun-Li, Chris and Dante. The rest however have, for the most, a solid casting with particular love for Felicia, Super-Skrull, Phoenix, Wolverine and Deadpool. Seriously, go look up the voice actors on IMDB, you will blow your fucking mind.

So, what can I say about this game that has not already been said in this week? Nothing. It's exactly the game I wanted it to be. It has a fantastic roster with a great variety, excellent online capabilities (spamming douchebags notwithstanding but I can't blame the game directly for that), I personally LOVE the music and voice actors and well....it's just overall a fantastic sequel that in my opinion, has managed to live up to its long-awaited reputation.
Now if only we can get Phoenix Wright in there and it'd be perfect.

Yes very good!
I honestly did not care about a game called Ninjabread Man to actually read your review :P
But I could probably use a fighting game, I haven't had one since Soul Calibur 2 on Gamecube lol.

I liked the original Street Fighter when it came out. I actually remember playing it at the arcades... and I never really ever went to arcades. Then I found Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter just seemed to pansy-ish. Just looking at the cover... the Street Fighter "bad guys" just don't feel or really look that "bad". In a way I'd almost say the same about Marvel... which is odd because I prefer Marvel over DC.

I look at MK vs. DC and the bad guys there are just so much more obvious. Of course... with MK sometimes even the good guys look like bad guys...
