Anyone planning on getting it?

I find myself a little nervous about forking up the money to pre-order it. I don't have the extra money laying around like I use to, and I don't know these Obsidian guys. I know it's the same engine as FO:3 and looks to have a lot of the same feel, but I've come to trust Bethesda (since all the way back to Daggerfall) for my RPG needs.

I probably won't pick it up until next summer, but I am 100% getting it.

I'm glad Obsidian is working on it. While I was surprisingly impressed by the atmosphere Bethesda created in FO3, I'm expecting more of a solid storyline and lore-driven world from Obsidian. Quite a few of the people who work for Obsidian Entertainment, including its CEO, Feargus Urquhart, worked on Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 as well as the Baldur's Gate series for the PC after they left Black Isle when Bioware more or less decided to abandon it for the first time. I'd rank the Baldur's Gate series first in any PC RPG list.

I don't expect the gameplay to be any different (Oblivion with guns) and I suspect the game will have the same 'feel' except with a more populated area (like FO2) as opposed to the wasteland (like FO3). Since Bethesda already set the scene for the FO3-era Fallout games, I don't think Obsidian could hurt it in anyway, but I think Obsidian has a much better writing team, so I think they'll do fine.

If I had more free time to play games, I'd pick it up. But I'll probably wait until it's been out for a year or so and pick it up during a Steam sale or something. I still have yet to play all the way through FO3 =/

Yeah, they (Obsidian people) said that due to limited development time and using FO3's engine, the feel is much the same. That's some comfort. That they were the ones that made Fallout1/2 is what worries me a bit, though. FO3 was my introduction--and many others'--to the Fallout world. If the original creators take it too far back to how they envision it, and if it's different than Bethesda's vision, it could turn off a lot of people.

Besides... I oddly don't look at games like these for story. These are largely sandbox, open world games in which a plot is just an option. If I'm really after story I'll play something like Dragon Age or Mass Effect (which I do). These games... I just want to be able to roam around and explore, more than anything. That said... to this day it bugs me you can't use Power Armor in FO3 without going through some of the main story. =/

I might pick it up, I know they completely redid the way you control your party, so that should be much more fluid now, I rented the first one for 3 weeks and had an absolute blast playing it, although it absolutely freaked me out when I played it at night all alone in a big room... I think I will probably get this one since I never really played all of FO3.

I'll pick up New Vegas evenutally, but probably not until I can grab it on some kind of sale. But it will be mine.
