i bought a QX9650 really cheap i could sell it for a i7 set up, but i have looked around and lot of benchmarks are saying the QX9650 and the i7 920-930 run about the same. The QX9650 has an unlocked multi is what people have reported plus the 12mb cache.

i was thinking of getting a 790i mb with some ddr3 ram insted of going with the i7 and everything.

does anyone know anything about these cpus or have any recommendations of selling the cpu and upgrade it all or just to stick with it.

Already got new monitor an asus 24" hd widescreen and a 300 gig raptor that i picked up for about $130.

Dude if it's comp to the i7 with a larger L3 then stick with it.

I beg to differ. i7's performs better clock for clock. Not to mention it has a superior memory controller. Are you looking at the 8xx or the 9xx series? That matters as its dual vs. triple channel memory.

If you already have a QX9650 setup, I say that there's no real reason to spend the money on something that is only slightly better than what you already have. I say, save your cash for a while for when something better comes along, which in this industry, something always will and for about the same price.

My rig is 1.5-2 years old and I run an overclocked Q9450 @ 3.2Ghz. I'm still quite happy with my setup and don't plan on upgrading unless a really good deal comes along (i.e. i7 930 for $100). I'd even be tempted with an AMD Hexacore for the right price (I do a shit ton of video encoding).
