First: Check out this article: http://www.pugetsystems.com/submerged.php
Quote:Over the years, we have seen many projects on the web that cooled a computer using common vegetable oil, including a very popular video by Tom's Hardware.
We felt that by building a computer in an aquarium using clear mineral oil, that we would be able to accomplish a much more attractive result, with less work. We were happy with the results!
We are pleased to present this page showing you the system we built, and giving you the information you need to make one of your own! (Image thumbnail deliberately used because the original is too fucking awesome to be displayed here.) Next: Note the quote: Quote:This is fake, there is no way this would work.
Answer: You're welcome to come by and give it a look in person! Directions to our Seattle facility where it is on display can be found on our Contact Us page.
Finally: Check out the Contact page: Lastly: One of you Seattle based homies go check that shit out. I wanna see if it's really real for my own two eyes before I embark upon this project. silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... I have 10 younger siblings and I am only 20....

So you're saying you or someone here has already posted this, gone to the place, inspected the setup, and posted the details of said product from a first person view? Oh, well I guess I should have known that from your obvious description in that first post. King of Jeans I wanna be like Buddylee 007 for life

Wouldn't the oil start to heat up? I can already see that the mineral oil will successfully work with electronics, but I would feel abit safer if besides the radiator it had some kind of water cooling. Comps these days will more likely to heat up even more with that kind of cooling since an insane setup although I don't see many people using would be a 6 core processor, 16 gigs of ram, Quad Crossfire Radeon HD 5990 or a Quad SLi nVidia 480GTX. ahhhh_crap wrote:no, splinter has ethics and whut has emotions

Yeah, they said it takes 12 hours under full load to heat the oil up...where it was topping out at 80c. So then it doubles as a Fry-daddy. I guess some months later they attached this big fucking radiator to it and it stablized the oil temp to 44c and makes it a fine thing, indeed. Quote:

Only problem I see with this setup is that its going to be pretty ugly to try and modify any hardware that you would need. SSD's are still too expensive so even a high quantity one wount last long. The idea of leaving out the optic drives seems handy but you can't really add on to them as the space is quite limited. I may have 2nd thoughts about my current in development pc build as this seems to be quite engenius to a water cooled PC. I just might consider making this kind of cooling setup for my 3rd pc rig. ahhhh_crap wrote:no, splinter has ethics and whut has emotions

Buddy o' mine has an old rig and I do too. I can't solder for shit, but he's learning. So the only hard points would be soldering the PSU to the Mobo and jury-rigging the radiator together... Also air-tight sealing the thing shut. When my Macbook Pro dies I'm gonna do this to the internals, too I hope. But yeah, the optical drive - just use an external and run it via USB. silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... I have 10 younger siblings and I am only 20....
