Also known as "Suck it, Frostbite." http://www.tuaw.com/2010/03/03/...-portal-team-fortress-2/The following images were sent by Valve piecemeal to various blogs recently. There's really only one conclusion you can draw: Steam's here to delay, bug-up and generally destroy the only remaining uncorrupted system left. silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... If you truly believe Macs are uncorrupted systems I feel very sorry for you. I do believe they are not meant for gaming though and although this is a good way to extend the uses of Macs, it's hard for me to imagine this working flawlessly and therefore perpetuating the stereotype of "MACS JUST WORK SILLY LOL" {pDs} Lead Salad: bike why did you change your name Jessica343: so I can get heals {pDs} Lead Salad: oh damn good idea {pDs} Lead Salad has changed their name to {pDs} Lead Salad (is a girl) Jessica343: hahah

Macs won't play these games as beautifully as PCs do; DX9/10 is far too prevalent and unportable. However, the power of the newer systems built in is more than enough for these games, at least processor and GPU wise. Steam will definitely not make it "just work," that's what Apple as a company does. We say "it just works" because we develop the software AND the hardware, and when things break from 3rd parties fucking up is when bad stuff happens. But still, it'll be interesting to see how this pans out. Expect in-house games only. TF, CS, HL, HL2, Blue whateverthefuck... you get the idea. silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... Agreed on that. One of my team members actually competes in TF2 on a Mac (using windows in bootcamp). He can definitely attest to its ability to handle the game hardware wise. I have a hackintosh desktop that I've been using for productivity and office stuff for a while now. I have Windows on another partition that I used mainly for gaming and TV tuner stuff, but I am definitely going to see how well it does at least on 10.5.8. Who knows, if it's actually better I might use it for gaming also. {pDs} Lead Salad: bike why did you change your name Jessica343: so I can get heals {pDs} Lead Salad: oh damn good idea {pDs} Lead Salad has changed their name to {pDs} Lead Salad (is a girl) Jessica343: hahah

http://www.engadget.com/2010/03...for-mac-debuts-in-april/Quote:Eager gamers have no doubt already seen the teasers, but Valve has now finally confirmed that its Steam game distribution service and Source engine will at long last be headed to the Mac. According to Valve, the company's current line-up of games (including the Half-Life and Left 4 Dead series) will be available to Mac users in April, while Portal 2 will represent the company's first simultaneous release for PC and Mac later this year. Better still, Steamworks for Mac also boasts a new feature called "Steam Play," which will let you buy a game once and, for instance, start playing it on a PC at work and then pick up where you left off on your Mac at home (we'll give you a moment to let that sink in). Game publishers will have to enable that feature themselves, but Valve says it expects most to take advantage of it. OH. SHIT. SON. SUCK. IT. silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... Something tells me this will kill my somewhat decent work habits on my Macbook... assuming already purchased 'PC versions' freely transfer.
