God damn, this was really really good. I like how it's paced, apart from the very beginning's "okay wtf" sort of feel. The action scenes kicked ass, the plot looks a little complicated on paper but turns out really well when you see it, and I almost felt sorry for that poor self-mutilating bastard.

Great mix of violence, scriptwork, and foreign accents.

I don't know what else to say, other then it's one of the most unique movies I've seen in a few years.

Also, I couldn't find any merch at the theatre.

It was 110% win

That said, I am still unsure about it being set in South Africa. It made me unconformable in the same way that it the medical experiments would have made me uncomfortable if it was set in Germany. I understand the whole underlying social and historical commentary, as well as the practical reasons for it being set in an English-speaking country that wasn’t the US or UK (a la politics, etc), but I’m still not sure making such a strong parallel to the apartheid, what with it being so recent, was an appropriate move. Sure you can draw a parallel in most countries with such as in Australia with the aborigines, but that is not in recent memory with open wounds for most and the scenes in the movie would not have been a glaring depiction of those particular events. I think it is too soon just as it would be too soon if a parallel with 9/11 was drawn.

Sorry for the bump, but I just saw it tonight and about crapped my pants at it's sweetness. I saw it with my buddy Paul (my wife wouldn't have liked it) and we both laughed so hard when the wheelchair Nigerian thug got his head popped. Great effects, just great.

I also think it was a pretty accurate representation of how humanity as a whole might react to such a thing. One of best non-action scenes for me was when Christopher (the main Prawn) stood there over the mutilated body of one of his kind oblivious to bullets being shot at him. I think he was trying to get to the mothership for selfish reasons until then, and then decided that he needed to try to save his whole race and not just himself and his son.

Long story short, I'm buying it when it comes out on DVD.

And if you go to the human side of D-9.com and enter the word "target" into the access code box (upper portion of screen), you can print out the Prawn shooting target. Sweet.

I think I need to change my pants too. This movie is completely made of win. Great story, futuristic weapons, and the exploding people made me think of "Mars Attacks" and "War of the Worlds" for some reason. :P
