A big thank you to all of the veterans out there today. You deserve more than just one day in thanks!

My late grandpa served as an engineer in the Second World War with the Canadian Army. Most of his time, from my understanding, was spent in Italy during the latter half of the War. I've always had the utmost respect for those that risked their lives to protect the free world from the tyranny and ruthlessness of dictators, such as Hitler. Without their heroics the Nazis could have spread death and hate that surpassed that of their concentration camps, an already staggering number that should never be forgotten.

War is an ugly thing. I remember my grandpa telling me how he lost one of his best friends in conflict. He was right beside him, and I can only imagine what that must have felt like at the time. The pain and terror that must have rushed through a young man's mind. Seeing your fellows drop down in lifeless heaps beside him, the whistle of incoming projectiles as they whistle through the air, the look of shock on the face of a young nurse brought about through sight of severe disfigurement and loss of limbs, and so on and so forth. I would never wish such scenes on my worst enemies, and I hope they never happen to my best friends.

May we remember those that died in all the Wars. Many young men and women who had so much to give only to have it all taken away in the form of ultimate sacrifice.

I will always remember.

My grandpa served in world war II as a mortar guy. He is one is the most badass people I've ever known in my life, and he always had the best ice cream when I came over. He died in 1994 due to lung cancer, but he was one of the best role models I could ever ask for.

He wore a ring around his neck during the war with some type of celtic design etched into it. I believe he got bought it sometime before he was sent to France, but he left it with my parents to give to me when i was an adult. I wear it all the time. This is definitely one of my most treasured items and it serves to remind me of what a badass he was as well as everyone else.

A Torc?

My grandfather was also in WW two and got captured during the battles of Kasserine Pass and lived in a German POW camp for many years. He escaped three times and on the third try made it all the way back to the United States.

Thank you Veterans.

And when you see them on the street stop to personally thank them for their service, it is the least you can do.

My late grandfather, who died of old age, was a combat medic and was deployed during d-day. He was at Omaha Beach but never talked about what he saw there. He would tell a story about how his troop boat was pulling up to shore, he shouted to the rest of the soldiers "Lets give em hell boys!" an anonymous solider responded "That's easy for you to say, you're in the back!"

To all veterans of old wars and new, from this country and all over the world, we thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live the free lives we have today.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them
In an hour of Darkness a blind man is the best guide. In an age of Insanity look to the madman to lead the way.

No, a finger ring. Apparently he can't wear jewelry on his fingers then, or something to that extent.
