I'd prefer cookies or pie. Also, rootbeer. Barqs, for me. I appreciate the update. Server runs real good. Can't wait to empty it out with avanti. :D If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe. - Carl Sagan My Backpack

avanti won't kill the server if it's times are set to a reasonable amount. Something around 5 minutes per cap, keep it fast paced. When it's a 30 minute final cap, 1 noone wants to wait 30 minutes for anything, and 2, it's almost inevitable that the map WILL get capped when the attackers have a half hour to whittle down your defences.

See, thats why I need to learn how to use the hammer editor. The very minimal thing needed for that map is reduced time. The next thing would be fixing the roof between 1 and 2. Next would be bonna-fide spawn rooms...and last I guess would be tweaking the level in general. Dammit Bragr. My name is about muffins, not genitals. I made it up years ago. Maps don't kill servers. People kill servers. Avanti has never killed the server when I've played it in the last couple months. In fact, back in the days of yore, Avanti would fill the server because Tempest regulars would flock to its almighty greatness. Some people call it confusing. It is at first. After 3 rounds and 40 minutes, if people still call it confusing, then good riddance to those people. (Though one person did call cp_stag more confusing than avanti. I think she had some... problems since stag is more linear than badlands.) The main problem with Avanti (and most attack/defend maps) is the respawn time. Attacking the third control point on Avanti when there are 6 sentry guns up is futile if an engineer can get back to his sentry gun within 10 seconds of dying when it takes longer than that for an attacking player to get to the front. The [near] instant respawn time is what kills the server. I know I've bitched about it before (and probably will again), but it is the main cause for failed attacks and agonizing 30 minute periods of utter rape by the defense on Avanti. Valve had a good reason for having a 15-30 second respawn time for defenders on a full 24-player server. 32 player servers should have a longer respawn time, not a negligible time. This is compounded on Avanti because it is intrinsically difficult to attack even with normal spawn times. More often than not with 20-32 players, the attackers don't win. The bad part is that it's possible that there isn't enough time for a second round of the map so the roles are reversed. The lack of spawn protection is really only an issue in small sided games. When it's 5 on 3 and the 3 are attacking with 2 griefing engineers who keep building at the original spawn point and the team of 5 is pretty much spawn camping them for 17 minutes straight at the spawn point below the second capture point, there's a problem. (The team of 3 ended up winning... somehow.) Of course, there's nothing that can really be done about that without changing the map's structure entirely. You could add a new room off a wall with a door in front of it, but bottlenecking people would make spawn camping easier to do and more effective. And what's wrong with the roof between points 1 and 2? You can walk on it. That's not a problem at all. It just lets soldiers, demomen, scouts, and to a lesser degree, engineers, use their built-in advantages. Yeah, the map has some problems (that's why it's avanti_b1, the first beta). It's charm and endearing personality will always keep us coming back to it, though. Because in the end, it's still a helluva lot of fun.

If I have some spare time I will load up the source SDK and lower the time awarded for each point. that is the problem with Avanti. Crappy already said it all. Nobody likes to fight over the church for 30 minutes. Quote:
