Donations don't go unrewarded either, we are fully obligated to always give the donators compensation when we have such long downtimes. ahhhh_crap wrote:no, splinter has ethics and whut has emotions

I've apologized a dozen times and I've explained that they're coming back after the transition next week. There's nothing else I can do here. I would kinda like more details about what going on, other than "its down". I work for an IT company in So-Cal that works for small and medium sized businesses so we end up dealing with their Telco's and ISP's. (ex: Acme, Inc uses 6 leased lines for their other offices so they can connect to their SCO Unix Server [yes, i cringe too, fellow linux nerds] which has their customer databased program on it from 1987) So I get to hear TelePacific say, "Well its down right now, tough." So that kind of general "its not working" kind of bugs me. I've had a long week at work, can you tell? I apologize if I missed the information on another post. PS: DONATED!

I've only been playing on the Tempest servers (and TF2) for a couple of months, but you guys are an awesome community. I had been searching for a community like the CS one I am apart of, and I would have to say that you guys are it. Do I have to be a member to donate? I would love to give back to the server. Any word on when they might be back up?

Here's the deal. We're broke. Period. It was either risk losing my house or taking out some of our server infrastructure. I chose the latter. Now, unfortunately due to my financial situation, I was unable to get the servers up on another machine before having to take down SG1, the box that handled the servers. However, as of tonight, Tempest 1 will be back online. This is entirely thanks to those donations that came in over the last couple of days. We're not a professional hosting company. We don't have the same obligations to our community as companies do to paying customers. Donations are just that, donations. They are given as is. While I do my very best to make sure that the community receives the best support I can provide, as well as those who donate receive the best value for their dollar, I don't always have the time to give a lengthy detailed explaination as to why something isn't working. It just isn't. I know it isn't working, and I'm taking the steps needed to resolve the issue. It's the best I can do. I don't get paid for this. I lose money on this community monthly. While donations continue to come in to help with the cost of our overhead, it wasn't enough to maintain the type of operation we were initially able to support. Anyway, I am in the process of configuring Tempest 1 again. Tempest 2, as well as 6 will return at a later time. Unfortunately I cannot specify when that will happen. WDF. I salute you. I know I've never donated to you guys once in my life, but I've known most of the oldschoolers since back in day of HL2: Deathmatch. I remember the Crypt with the megabow mod, the days of me pwning face with my xbow skills, the HAX-PDS scrims, nuclear football, and whorbing. The past few years with you guys have been some of the greatest gaming experiences of my life thanks to you. In an hour of Darkness a blind man is the best guide. In an age of Insanity look to the madman to lead the way.

Donated my usual semi-annual amount. Use it however you need. Thanks for all your work in keeping this community going despite the personal costs to you. You are appreciated. "I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like ... victory"

I wish I could give more as I tend to play on this server a lot but I am going to college and working at McD's (yay for minimum wage) so then you might ask why I am even playing TF2 but whatever, I greatly appreciate your hard work and dedication to this community and wish you the best of luck in every way. Who knows, you may even win the lottery.
