The sniper updates are coming up. So I thought it'd be a good time to work on my aim.

I discovered a few training maps that I want to share with you:

TR_AIM

A shooting-range style map. Bots circle around in different patterns. The great part is you can control their speed, crits, health, etc.

---

TR_ROCKET_SHOOTING2

Soldier-specific practice. Rows of bots that jump up and down ready for you to bounce into the air for that 'airshot' practice.

---

TR_AIRSHOT_v0

Shooting-range. Except bots fly at you duck-hunt style. For practicing 'airshots'.

---
TR_AIRSTAB_300

An 'airstab' is when you circle behind someone in mid-air and stab them as you land. The video explains it better.

How do you work on your aim? Insights, advice appreciated.

I like to shoot at this Bot called John Digweed that occassionally gets spawned in the tempests. It really needs better ai coding though.

I also use the Airshot_v0 to warm up sometimes.

I think for that first map, the bots need to jump. (maybe they did and i didn't watch long enough.) The only difficult time i have when sniping is when they are jumping.

For my practice i just play against Darkscars :)

Oh man, I had several Sniper duels with Darkscars last weekend. I'm pretty sure he won 99.9% of them. He's a fun guy even when he's kicking my ass though :P

As for actual practice: when I first started playing Sniper I spent a lot of time on 'Sniper Only' servers. The regulars on those maps will destroy you, but they'll also provide great advice and practice.

I'm kind of a weird Sniper, though. Unlike most Snipers, I pick a location and wait for people to cross MY path. I rarely go searching for a target; I will SCAN areas (i.e. the Sniper platform and doors in 2Fort) but I don't pick a taget and follow it with the laser dot unless they're a prime target (i.e. someone with the intel).

That may explain why I'm such a sporadic Sniper. Anyone who has played with me knows I can have games where I can't hit the broad side of a barn (or a Heavy) and then there are other games where I can nail a Scout flying past me, mid double jump...through a door...

...I should probably practice more, come to think of it...

When i snipe, i try not to worry about other snipers unless they are owning my team, or in danger of killing me. I find when i only snipe other snipes, I have a great score, but not exactly helping my team out. I try to go for who ever is giving my team the most trouble, granted sometimes that is another sniper. Sometimes i have great days, then sometimes i can't hit a damn thing :\

Practicing is for suckers. Just dive in and get ruined until you figure it out. That's my philosophy. Also I like pie.

Not sure if this helps in this game as I've never tried it but a piece of sticky tack placed on your computer screen in the middle worked quite well in some of the games I played before Tf2. Once you get used to shooting at the sticky tack head shots become almost automatic.

Again I think it's a cheesy technique but its worth a shot for those looking to improve their aim.
